Will there be a Google Fit integration with Charge 5?

Howdy. I want to pre-order the Charge 5, but it was reported early on it would be compatible/integrate with Google Fit, is that still the case or is it unknown at this point? Thanks!

Hi @MrSmithAZ.

Considering none of the other Fitbit devices are compatible with Google Fit, I'd say it's unlikely that the Charge 5 will also be. Your device talks to the Fitbit app, which then syncs your data to Fitbit's servers. The server would then speak with any 3rd party/external services. What I'm trying to say here is that if the C5 were to be compatible, then all other Fitbit devices should also be (which isn't the case).

This doesn't mean it isn't planned, but personally I haven't heard anything about this happening. I'd like to be wrong though.

I'm not sure where this was reported, or how reliable the source of the reporting was but suggest to add your vote to the request..

With thousands of votes, this doesn't look good.

Come to think of it, I don't know where I read it either 😋. Something about a partnership between Fitbit and Google (or Google owns Fitbit?) and a couple of different Charge 5 news/speculation articles (speculation being the important word) mentioning Fitbit using Google Fit starting with the Charge 5, but since readings those things a week or two ago, I've seen zero mention of it, so they were perhaps just wildly speculating about possible features of the Charge 5, a lot of which was unknown at the time. I guess I don't have to use Google Fit just because I have a Google Phone, might be nice, but not necessarily a dealbreaker, and I might still pre-order.

Thanks for the responses!

I think Google has to be quite careful about integrating Fitbit too much with Google products/services. Part of the takeover approval had strict conditions that have to be met concerning user data and not sharing such data with Google.

I think Google is going to let Fitbit do its thing. I believe Google is more interested in fitbit's meta data.***

Rumors are that fitbit will be coming out with a watch that runs Wear OS, and at that time, I think there may be a better chance for that watch to sync up with Google fit.

*** I say this because of the experience with Google buying Waze. The only thing Google added is the ability to send commands to Waze. via OK Google. We saw no other changes.

However, everyone I have talked with have noticed huge changes with G-Maps.

I see! Thanks for the info. I suppose I'll just use the Fitbit app if I get a Charge 5. Not like I was really accustomed to using Google Fit or anything, I never had an opportunity to try it as I haven't had a Fitness watch. So I'm sure the Fitbit app will do me just fine.

Personally I think the Fitbit app is better in many ways, although choice is always a good thing. Hopefully we will be able to use Google fit with Fitbit one day in the future.

There is a Fitbit to Google Fit sync app in the Google Play Store, just search for "fitbit google fit sync" in the App Store.

Cirrently no individual tracker will sync up with G-Fit this sync will be between your Fitbit account and your Google account. And I don't see this option being added by Google any time soon.

Fit2fit works great for syncing.
