2 times now I have gone to use my charge 5 only to find it has no power. Yesterday was very frustrating. I wanted to climb mount diablo on my bicycle. The night before I made sure the charge 5 was fully charged. I go to use it the next morning, and there is not charge. I had to resort to my trusty charge 2.

When you first got your charge 5 did you kill the battery to 0% and charge for 24 hrs after that?
I did that twice with mine and found it solved the battery losing charge issue. It seems like the charge 5 battery is very much like the 1990's phone batteries. Only works properly if you kill it the first two times and charge for 24 hours after.

That is not actually true for modern lithium ion batteries such as in Fitbits. There is no “conditioning” of these sorts of batteries. While deep discharges now and again won’t do significant damage, it definitely will NOT help to allow the battery to discharge completely. Generally speaking deep discharges should be avoided. To maximise the overall lifetime of your Fitbit keep it 20-80% charged as much as possible.
What is likely to have happened to you @SunshineRose389 is that when your Fitbit died completely it forced a restart which corrected the issue.
@bmiddleton have you tried giving your Charge 5 a restart? A restart can shut down any background activities that may be causing unusual discharge. Sometimes you need to do the restart up to 3 times. Instructions are here.
I hope this helps!
