AMEX will not add to wallet.

I can’t add an American Express card to the Google wallet on charge six. I added a visa with no problem but when I try and add American Express, it says an unknown error has occurred. This occurs after it says it’s contacting the bank.

Sounds like I'm having the exact same problem when trying to add my mastercard. It says "contacting bank", then i accept my banks TOS and it starts loading with the message "processes account information". Then after like 3-5seconds it shows an error message saying something along the lines of "Your card could not be added". My visa was added without any problems and my bank is supposed to support all sorts of smartwatches and stuff.

I just contacted customer support about it, they were no help at all. They just asked me if I had tried to troubleshoot it myself. In other words they had no idea how to fix it.

Yeah, and the whole thing is so weird. In the app and everywhere it calls itself google play, but when they contact the bank they label themselves as fitbit pay to the banks it seems like, cuz i get a verification sms from my bank and that says "use this one-time-code to activate your card in fitbit pay". And when i add cards to my actual google wallet on android/chrome then I never go through this sms verification process, so it seems like theyre using the fitbit backend still, just a fresh UI

Same problem here, and on researching seems to have happened with Versa 4 and Sense 2 as well when they were changed from Fitbit Pay to a Google Wallet... 😞

AmEx says this is a Fitbit or Google problem...

"I appreciate you for patiently waiting! Upon checking, there were no any recent attempts to attach your card to Fitbit Pay and Google Pay.

Im having the same problem too, with both Amex and Mastercard (credit card) in the UK. Visa debit card seems to register ok.

Would be great to have some more support from Fitbit to resolve this issue..

Successfully added PayPal MasterCard (Synchrony Bank) but could not add either Amex or Visa from Navy Federal Credit Union. Contacted NFCU and they said they saw no new add attempts. They had me remove and re-ad to Google Wallet itself, which was successful. They suggested it was a Google/Fitbit problem.

 

Disappointed also that we can't use the full Google Wallet capability (i.e., use transit cards from Fitbit).

I've been trying to add a Visa card as well, and I keep seeing the test holds hit the card account, and my bank says it looks good on their side, but the Fitbit app (or Google Wallet) just won't show it, saying it's the bank's fault. Frustrating.....

Same here. My bank checked the logs on their side and couldn't find any attempts made by neither fitbit nor google at creating a virtual card say that the problem has to be on fitbit/googles side

I cannot add my HSBC Visa Debit - after the ‘contacting your bank’ stage of setup I just get the error message ‘something went wrong’. Have spoken to HSBC who say everything’s fine their end… Have been trying regularly since getting my Charge 6 yesterday.

I have the same issue. Added a UK Visa debit card but Amex or Barcalys credit MasterCard won't add. It says it "isn't supported to lay contactless on the watch" as a message now. This is so frustrating! One of the reasons I got the Charge 6 was to be able to use Google Wallet, not Fitbit pay...

Same ongoing problem. Added (Co-op) Visa in Fitbit, then deleted it and added again in Google Wallet (Using Chrome). Same message

Couldn't finish card setup to pay in stores.

Had a really useful phone conversation with my bank; they said it's a common problem with Google Wallet and they are usually able to add it manually, as they can see what wallets are associated with my account. BUT there is no card in my Google Wallet visible to my bank. Even though I can see it. I haven't yet tried to pay on-line through Google Pay. Have others tried?

PS - I never used FitBit pay ...

Google Wallet was the whole reason I bought this watch, and now I can't add my AmEx card. Like others, VISA card added fine. But for AmEx I get a notice after "contacting your bank" that adding my card to wallet on watch is not supported.

Same here, why would they call it Google Wallet to begin with. This is my second Google hardware after buying two Pixel 7s last year, both phones are super buggy as well. It seems Google can't make decent hardware.

Piling on: also not able to add AmEx to wallet. I get an error that says my bank does not allow adding to the device. Which is highly suspect since the same card is already loaded as my default contactless payment on my Google Wallet on my Pixel 7a. I was, however, able to successfully add my MasterCard.

Same problem here - added my VISA card fine, but when I try to add my Amex (which is already in Google Wallet ok) in Fitbit app I get the error "This card can't be set up for pay contactless". I use Amex as my main payment method and was the whole reason I bought this Fitbit rather than a much cheaper one. Ridiculous.
