Brand New Fitbit Charge 6 User

Bought my first ever fitbit today a Charge 6. Paired it with my samsung mobile successfully.

Please can someone tell me about the steps function. When mobile is powered on and within Bluetooth range the steps will count up fine. If mobile is powered off the fitbit count does not count up.

I thought if I left the house without the phone and out of Bluetooth range you could still see the steps increase on the Charge 6 and it would sync with mobile when returning home.

Have I misunderstood the step function?

Welcome to the Fitbit community, @Juggerlugs,

Your Charge 6 will track and store core data, such as calories, distance and steps, independently of the mobile device you're using the Fitbit app on, for quite a few days. Those data will then be transferred and displayed ion the Fitbit app after your Fitbit device has been synced.
Please check if you're seeing a step increase while wearing your Charge 6 by swiping up from the clock face to the check your daily stats.
