Cardio load should ask for confirmation first if you want to target up or down based on recent activity. I'm a very active 64 year old cocker spaniel walking victim. I've been targeted up and down many times, which sets off over-training and under-training warnings which you can't deactivate and it really pi$$e$ me off. I have had intense digging projects that put me into the 330+ range, or have had a twisted heel injury that drops me down low. There is no way to register exceptional circumstances and being shouted at by algorithm Cardio Load messages is absolute rubbish customer support...

Don't let Fitbit boss you around. The way they calculate Cardio Load Points is pretty solid but the way they use those to generate a target is a little more subjective. I just loaded the Public Preview of the next version and they don't even have that little under training-overtraining graph anymore.
The targets really only work if you train like clockwork. The new version that sets weekly targets instead of daily targets looks better. We'll see.
I just work toward my own targets like I used set my own Zone-Minute targets. Cardio Load points are a lot like Zone Minute points just way more accurate. I have a daily target that I work toward every day. I plan on off days when I won't generate any points. And I have a weekly goal of five exercise days (daily target x 5) If I can't do 5 days because of life I adjust my daily goals accordingly. If I'm going to do yard or construction work, I check the cardio minutes and may skip an exercise session.
I'm 78 and its working for me.

TBH my Cardio balances over the month rather than the day/week. Fitness isn't my lifestyle target it's more of an interested tec surveillance.
I haven't found anywhere in the Fitbit app that I can find tune my Cardio. I bought the Charge 6 because I wanted to track my sleep and possible heart arrhythmia.
My lifestyle is a distance Granny with a Cocker Spaniel, so activity is ++++ one week then recovery when family demands drop off.
Just trying to flag that Fitbit users are not always Gym Bunnies, but real people with activity targets that shouldn't be moved without positive consent. I know when my measurable Cardio performance dips, I'm absolutely working within my lifestyle normals, but the Fitbit app still shouts at me...
