Charge 6 counting steps while sleeping & driving

This is my first day of using charge 6 . I purchased it yesterday. It keeps counting hundreds of steps when I was sleeping and adds hundreds even when I'm walking short distances. I was also counting when I was driving. How do I fix this

These devices picks up on movement your app may be set to sensitive so take a look….Fitbit app, Fitbit settings, preferences>sleep>sensitivity option at the bottom if it’s already set to normal I’m not sure if anything else can be done in the settings. Remember these devices pick up on movement which is used to work out your daily calorie burn so the steps may be off by a few thousands but the more important stats are accurate reflection of your overall health.

Hi there @AbenJ Welcome to the Fitbit Community! It's great to have you here, allow me to help you understand how your Charge 6 tracks your activity and what you can do to improve its accuracy.

Hi @robworkingout I hope you're doing well! Thanks for your contribution.

Fitbit devices use a 3-axis accelerometer to count your steps. This sensor also allows your device to determine the frequency, duration, intensity, and patterns of your movement.

In some cases, the device will count steps if it detects movement even if you are not actually walking.

You can always improve the accuracy of your stats with some tips you can learn from our help article How does my Fitbit device calculate my daily activity?  below the section "What are some tips to make sure my Fitbit daily activity is accurate?"

You can’t delete daily activity data. If you see extra steps or floors on your device, log a non-step-based activity, such as driving, to override them. For more information, see How do I add, edit, or delete Fitbit data and activities?

I hope this helps !

Thanks for your reply. sleep setting is set to sensitive but I am ok with it. But I am concerned is with the counting of steps when not walking liek driving, taking a train ride etc..are they related to sleep sensitivity?

Hi there @AbenJ thanks for stopping by. I hope you're doing well. Allow me to help with your question.

The sleep sensitivity is related to sleep feature only.

If you are still having a steps count higher that expected, i recommend that you restart your device if you haven't done so:

  1. Connect your device to the charging cable.
  2. Press the button located on the flat end of the charger 3 times with a 1-second pause between each press. Then wait 10 seconds or until the Fitbit logo appears.

You can always log a driving activity to override indesirable data. However, several users have found a solution that consists in placing their device in the glove compartiement during the driving activity.

I hope thesse tips will help you!

Husband and i each have a Charge 6.  When he wears his tracker - with all the profile info for his body (82 years old, 165#, 5’5”) it seems to track way too many steps.  When he wears mine (female, 82 years, 96#, 4’8”) then it is much more realistic.  He is busy all day, but to get a daily reading of anywhere from 6,000 to 15,000 steps is not accurate.   While frosting cookies the other day, it counted steps the entire time he was frosting but sitting and not moving.  He has only had his Fitbit for a few weeks.  We would really like it to show more realistic accuracy.

I added my driving time, yet it hasn't altered my step count, distance, or calories burned. What am I doing wrong?
