Charge 6 deleted most of my Activity (Walk) data

ANSWERED

As a Premium subscriber to Fitbit, I have set up a spreadsheet that includes all the weekly email data I receive, and have added to it. Last week, I thought I'd also calculate and insert a weekly analysis of Activity (Walk) distance per week, to record my dog-walking activities, which (by the times shown in the app) I can isolate from other Walks.
This entails manual calculations from data recorded in my Android app. Guess what? Random Activity days have disappeared for the whole of 2024 (and indeed for Nov and Dec 2023—I bought my Charge 6 in early Nov).
I force quit the Fitbit app, uninstalled, restarted phone (Android up to date), re-installed app. No change. Each time I search Activity by month, I see data dates appear and disappear, mostly the latter.
Is this anything to do with various updates I see discussed on the Charge 6 forum? Or am I reporting a new problem?
Any suggestions appreciated!

Hello @philinsofia

There is an issue on the Fitbit side that affects our ability to see exercise data in the Fitbit app. A Moderator posted on 12 Sep 2024 acknowledging the syncing issues and data transfer errors. He said that the team is working on identifying a resolution as quickly as possible.

For now, there's no troubleshooting that we can do on our side. As frustrating as this is for all of us, we have to wait until the team fixes the problem.

Thank you, RiekoC! I thought (from what I'd read on the forum) thatthe two problems might be related. So, I shall wait patiently until it's fixed.

Hello @philinsofia

I saw today (20 Sep 2024) that one of the issues appears to have been fixed. However, I'm not sure if there are any other issues still being fixed that affect our exercise data.

If all the issues have been fixed, it could still take some time before we are able to see all our exercise data in the app. At least, there's been some progress.

Hi RiekoC,

I promised an update. Well, it's taken some time, but most of my "Activity" data has been restored. Except for 21 days in January 2024. I continue to check that month's data, just in case! I noticed that going to Activity/Month might not always show marked weekly/daily activity. If I moved on to the Weekly option, data might well appear, that I could then copy to my (external) spreadsheet, and, more importantly, continue to access in future on Fitbit.

Hello @philinsofia

Thank you for your latest update and letting us know that most of your historical Activity has been restored.

From a few Moderator posts I've read, the issue with recent & historical exercise data hasn't been fully resolved. But from your updated, it looks like there's definitely been some progress.

If I see any updates from the Moderators regarding when this issue is fully fixed, I'll report back. I'll also be monitoring this thread for your next update.

Hi RiekoC,
Seems a case of "slowly but surely"?! I learned a practical lesson from this—and nothing against Fitbit, as such: Find a backup method for what you consider to be important or useful information.  In my case, a simple Pages spreadsheet, that includes a copy of the weekly summary I receive from Fitbit as part of my subscription, plus an additional, daily (manual) recording of the Activities in which I have a particular interest. Generally, however, am happy with the Charge 6 setup I'm using—and I'm not stating that for any PR, propaganda or promotional reasons.

Howdy... experienced many of your frustrations recently. May be related and may not be. Was on Customer Support Chat trying to resolve my syncing problems. Somehow during the troubleshooting process, I managed to "unpair" my device. Unfortunately, I lost all data from the time my Charge 6 last synced until the time I was able to setup and pair once again. You are spot on,,, find a way to back up the information that is important to you. Fortunately I'm back in business with an important lesson learned. BarniklBill

Hi BarnicklBill,
I didn't have any pairing problems, so am sorry to hear you hit a rock, as it were! But, re backing up, we all know that, whatever our preferred system(s), we would be wise to make a copy (even with pen/pencil on paper, unless we live in a smoking permitted environment). My Apple Pages entries take less than a minute to make on a daily basis, and possibly 3-4 on a weekly transfer of the full Fitbit weekly stats I receive.

Letting you know that the issue with not seeing all our historical data in the app has been confirmed as escalated. If I learn of any updates, I'll report back.

I have lost most, if not all, of my Fitbit data since getting a charge 6 to replace my charge 4 (which worked fine for 3 years until 3 weeks ago & I had to replace it). I was able to see as far back as November 2023 until I decided to reinstall my app today & now it shows nothing. I've had a Fitbit at least since 2016 & I normally keep all of my old devices saved in the connected to Fitbit section of the app. I took off the charge 4 because Fitbit made me, but it didn't make me take off the others (my old versa 2 & an old phone). I have no clue what to do but I'm not happy to lose all of this data because it's a lot of data.
