I recently started using a charge 6 after a 3 month hiatus from my charge 5. I've noticed I'm getting extremely high zone minutes numbers without doing much. Example: I've just gotten 3600 zone minutes after being awake for less than 5 hours - most of that time in a chair at a desk. What's going on?

I have found stress can add to the zone minutes. I was in a stressful desk job and my zone minutes were often more than when I work in child care running around with the children.

Hi @ghrbrub welcome to the Fitbit Community, it's great to have you here!
Allow me to explain to you how you earn active zone minutes.
Earn Active Zone Minutes for time spent in the moderate (fat burn), vigorous (cardio), or peak heart-rate zones. To help you maximize your time, you earn 2 Active Zone Minutes for each minute you’re in the vigorous or peak zones. Heart-rate zones are personalized based on your fitness level and age.
This being said, i suggest that you check your personal information in your Fitbit app. You can find detailed instructions on how to do it in the following help article: How do I manage my Fitbit profile?
I hope you will find this information helpful !
