I purchased a new Charge6. Plugged it in to charge. Turned on my phone and the app instructed me to put charge 6 on the app. I followed instructions and tracker was loaded and synced. Once tracker( charge6) was charged I opened scree and it says to download app. Since I have the app on my phone, do I need to download it on the tracker? It counted my steps, but still says to download app

Sounds like the Charge 6 has not been completely setup.
Without removing your Charge 6, I would do the setup again. You will see a warning that the Charge 6 will be removed.
If the app has an issue finding the Charge 6, remove the Charge 6 from your BT and clear the Fitbit app's cache. Then try again.
I've had the same issue when setting up the Charge 6.

Indeed you are correct! I had to do the set up again and it worked just fine. I’m useless with any sort of technology, even the easy stuff 😅

Sometimes when things don't go as expected, it may require thinking outside of the norm. I've been there a few times, so have had experience with y is issue.
