This hasn't happened before. I walk and count out 50 steps, and it has counted 27. A bit later, I just walk up two flights of stairs, 20 steps, and it has counted 6. I jog in place for 25 steps just to test it (swinging my arms pretty vigorously) and it shows 14. I just recently charged it and the battery is over 80% (if that matters).

Please, make sure that you are usgin the latest version of the Fitbit app and that your device is up to date.

If you haven't already done so, you could try restarting your Charge 6.
The other thing that I would check is your stride length in the Fitbit app:
If that doesn't help improve your step tracking, you could try manually setting your stride length. This help page (<-- click) has the instructions on how to manually set up your stride length.
