Charge 6 keeps turning off

ANSWERED

As the title says: My new Charge 6 keeps turning itself off since late last week.

Bought it on release, didn't have any problems so far. Battery is holding good.

Now, last week my Charge 6 was dead all of a sudden the day after I charged it (still hat at least 60% battery). Had to use the power cable, connect it and tap the button on the cable 3x. Then it came back.

A day or two later the same happend. Was charged to over 90%, had to revive with the power cable button trick.

And that happend 2 or 3 more times.

Does anyone else have that problem? Am I just stupid and turn it off accidentally without knowing?

Will contact support later today and ask them too, just curious if the hive mind had some issues with that.

Can I ask you to check 2 settings for me: the Display and Notifications settings.

Battery life often depends on the settings in both of these cases.  If the display is set to "Always On", it drains WAY more battery than just having the screen set on "Tilt To Wake".

Notifications also drain battery, depending on how many you get in a day, not only because it's connected to BT, but because of the vibration from the device.  Please be sure that you only have the settings you ABSOLUTELY need set to go off on the device.

I seem to be having the same problem.  Brand new, out of the box, 16 hours ago.  Charged it fully, then it went off aft less than 3 hours use.  Used the button on the charger and managed to wake it (said it had 94% battery - 6% battery used 3 hours!).  Put it on, went to sleep, woke up and it was off again.  Now I can't get it to turn on at all.  I suspect a bad update, but I also suspect returning is my only option.

@LeeW1 have you tried the steps I mentioned above?

Same problem. To the user asking about settings this is not the problem....the Fitbit is on and charged and the app still reads activity. The display just won't turn on. Worked for a bit when I rebooted using the charger but now when I do it the Fitbit symbol shows briefly  but it does not turn on. I will be returning it.

Yes, I’m having the same problem and have had to restart it 3 times since purchasing the charge 6 only 6 weeks ago. I have owned charge 3 and 4 before and find the duration of the battery seriously weak. I find that I have to charge the unit after 3 or 4 days. It is not used excessively, I do an hour gym session a day but the unit is not paired with any of the machines because it won’t pair, so it is only monitoring my own activity. I also find that the battery level measure is too small to read .

Another question for all: has there been any water damage to the device?

There has been limited contact with water. I take off when showering and have yet to use it while swimming. It is water proof - right?

It's actually not waterproof, it's water resistant (I don't remember off-hand what the threshold is). In theory, as long as you have the seal on, you should be ok, but that seal wears off over time.

While I don't believe that's the sole cause of the issue, that could be part of it. There may be some residual water in the screen. Although I haven't tried this myself with Fitbits, I've seen people who had their devices in water for extended periods of time be able to dry out the water by placing the device in white rice. The rice is a starch, which draws out the water. That may be something to try.

Try that and see how it goes!

A few, some not so standard, thoughts

  • By law, your tracker can not be listed as waterproof. At some depth it will fail. IE: Titan
  • Have you tried a restart. Swipe Down > Settings > Restart Device > Restart
  • Have you tried setting up the Charge 6 as a replacement device?
  • I would like to also see a Shutdown Command, but the Charge line doesn't have one.

Water resistant is ify subject the test is not done in the real world. A rating of 5ATM or 150 feet is not reality. It doesn't address showers, water current, the jets in a hot tub, etc.

I did a factory reset under the direction of customer services. So we will see if this works.
I still don’t think I should be resetting a brand new product so often and also that this should be an acceptable solution

Same problem. Mines just been replaced but I’m not holding my breath.

I solved it by going into the app, changing the clock face and doing an update through the app. Didn't need to restart after that. Works so far....fingers crossed!

I am also having the same issue.  It is NOT a battery problem and my Charge 6 has never been in water or gotten wet.  This morning my battery was at 68%.  About four hours later it was off.  In the past, putting it back on the charger and doing a reboot has worked to get it restarted and working, but that is not working today.  I have had to reboot my Charge 6 way too many times for something I just purchased it on October 29.  Very frustrating.  Never had this issue with my Charge 5, at least until my Charge 5 stopped working all together.

----

I have always used the 'Target' clock face on both my Charge 5 and Charge 6.  By chance is this what you were using when you were have the problem?

Just the default one. I think the system update via the app is what fixed
it but try both.

Sadly with so many of us having the same issue. I feel it isn’t a battery issue. I purchased on 12/26/23. Today is 1/2/24 and it has happened to me 3 times.  I definitely do not keep it on all the time. Also, other than washing my hands it has been no where near water and I am careful to push it back before washing my hands. But it just goes dead. I plan to contact support tomorrow as well. Feeling frustrated. Spend the money and it won’t work. As many comment threads as I have seen with this same issue I feel certain it is a software issue or design flaw.

I agree with you completely. I should not have to stop and remove and plug in just to get the thing to work. Not even 2 weeks and I’ve had to do that 3 times. Calling support first thing in the morning.

What good is a replacement if it still does or will do the same thing.

I've had this issue as well. It shuts off on its own about twice a day at least. Really frustrating as I just opened this like a few days ago. Hoping for replacement or some kind of software fix?
