Thank you for sharing this situation with us; let me help you out.
This could happen for several reasons. One of the most common is that you might have activated the Do Not Disturb (DND) or Sleep Mode on your watch or phone. If that is the case, you need to make sure to turn it off in order to get not only text messages but also any other notifications.
I would like to confirm if the steps provided here are already completed. You also need to make sure to have the OS up to date on both devices.

By any chance, did you try setting up your Charge 6 in the Fitbit app as if it was a new device as part of the troubleshooting you did? If not, that might be worth a try.

If DND or Sleep are not active, open your fitbit app, Charge 6 settings, disable notifications. Restart the app. You should be promoted to setup notifications x
