My third Fitbit goes back for a refund today. My first Charge 5 lasted only a month before needing to be replaced (a process which took almost six weeks). My second charge 5 lasted two years. My new Charge 6 worked for about four weeks before randomly going black, regardless of reported battery charge. This morning it never came back to life.
I used my Fitbit for walks and short jogs. It get regular charges and has never been wet.
Fitbits are fine when they work, but if you get one for a gift, watch it carefully during the warranty period and return if there any glitches.

As you said above, there is a warranty period. I recommend you contact Fitbit customer services to get a replacement or refund.

Are you leaving the Charge 6 on the wrist during a shower, or in a hot tub? The high pressure of the jets, or shower, could be compromising the water seal

My charge 5 Fitbit watch is two years old in February 2024. I'm waiting to get charge 6 , but is it any good and worth the time?

If you got the warranty, I'd recommend doing what @ShadowFT mentioned, but I would check it from the retailer you purchased the device from. If it's from a third-party site or store, Fitbit won't be able to honor the replacement.

@Rich_Laue if you read the post from @alfro it clearly states that the fitbit has never been wet. I think most people would class wearing something in the shower or hot tub as getting it wet, never mind temperature and force of water.
