Was working away this morning when I had the X with red ring around it. Followed some of the fault finding suggested here. Ended up forcing a restart on the charging cable.
Fitbit logo appeared briefly and now nothing. Dead as a Dodo. The charging reset method is not working either now.
Feeling pretty raw as this was only purchased in November 2023.

After 20mins CPR on the charger it is back 🙌

So after briefly coming back to life the unit acted erratically. Lots of vibrations, the battery discharged within 12 hours and it is now dead again. No amount of charging or resetting will save the thing. Exactly the same as what happened to a previous unit I had which I had to toss. I have 10 years worth of Fitbit data I am am keen to keep, but changing a unit every 14/15 months isn't a great feeling. Given the guys at Fitbit can see my history I'd hope they'd do the decent thing and replace it.
