Fitbit missing activity steps

My Fitbit app seems to have deleted or ignored steps taken during an activity.

I went for a walk and it was recorded as an exercise on the device. I finished the exercise and saw that I had more than 12000 steps for the day. The next day I synced the Fitbit and it said that I had only got about 6400 steps that day. Looking at the graph of when the steps took place, it looks like it is missing the steps that I did during the walk but has recorded the steps before and after it. The heart rate, calories and distance are also missing at that time.

What is weird is that the app is saying that I am still on a streak for hitting my step goal (10000 steps). So basically the steps are saying I didn’t get 10000 but the streak is saying that I did.

Anyone have any ideas?

Hello @ŽaliaBalta

There's been an on-going issue on the Fitbit side that affects step tracking, which results in count discrepancy/incorrect step count in the app. The team is aware of the issue and has been working on fixing the problem. However, we haven't seen a timeline for the fix.

As you noticed, your step count history appears to have been properly uploaded to your account on the Fitbit servers. Other users have reported that their step count looks correct in their weekly Fitbit progress email. This indicates to me that it seems there is a sync issue between the user account data on the Fitbit servers and the user's app. As best as I can tell, there isn't any loss of data.

For now, there isn't any troubleshooting that we can recommend since the issue is on the Fitbit side.

I went out for a walk on Thursday, done my step & reached my goal, (10k steps) I had a streak of over 1500 days, it didn’t register me reaching my goal and now it’s started over again. Not happy. 😡

Same problem here.  Losing 4,000 steps a day since sept 3, 2024.  Fitbit doesn’t seem to care.

This issue is on-going since late August!  Is there any hope that they will actually fix the issue with the data showing correctly in the app?  I agree, my email summary looks correct, so the data is there.  It just seems to be a long time with no improvement on the issue.

Yep - I'm experiencing similar issues and finding it very annoying.

It's been almost 3 months since OP posted. Is there not a solution for this now?

I just had the exact same issue yesterday. I'm on a trip overseas and did a significant amount of walking around Dublin. Went to look at my activity and zones and realized that the app had nothing showing after 1pm but had my steps. Every other time it synced, it would remove 10k steps, despite me being active almost the entire day.

Sooooo frustrating! Of all the things that could go wrong, this is the one
that really aggrevates as its (for me) the most important part of having a
Fitbit.

Agreed!! At this point, that and the sleep tracking are the main if not only reasons I use it but I keep having problems with both!!

Back in the day before all the changes to layout etc were introduced I
don't recall any of these problems, or am I wearing rose tinted glasses?!

Did they ever reach back out to you? This must still be an ongoing issue. This just happened to me as well almost 6 months later.

Hello @Skittleboo

Would you please give us some more information/details about the step issue you're experiencing? That will help us with troubleshooting recommendations.

Just curious are you having issues with the sleep tracker as well. It often says I slept only 2-3 hrs when I actually slept more than 8 total. It doesn’t record my first falling asleep starts after I take the dog out between 5-7 am and then fall back asleep.

Hello @FracturedSphinx

It's best to start a new thread for an issue that is different from the topic to keep discussions on track.

Regarding your issue with sleep tracking, this help page (<-- click) explains how Fitbit sleep tracking works.

There's also a section on the page that describes how to edit your sleep log. Every now & then, the app doesn't have my correct sleep start and/or wake time. When this happens, I edit my sleep log in the app.
