This has happened 5 times now and its about to start affecting my insurance at work where I need to track 7000 steps per day. I reach the goal and then the next day it says I never finished it. Last night for example on my fitbit showed I had 12375 steps. Today I look at my fitbit steps it shows me only getting 6385. Even right now my fitbit is showing 4200 steps but the app is only showing 2900. What is the reason for this discrepancy.

I have a similar problem, my Charge 6 will count steps to complete an hour, but the app won’t count the hour. The watch will show 9 of 9 hours for the day, but app may only credit me with 7 or 8 hours for the day.
Like you, have times where my steps are well in excess of my 10,000 , only the to look and see that credited steps have been removed and I need to re-step them or play tricks with app. It’s weird.

Hi @PolhillS and welcome @Bwnikula to the Fitbit Community! It's great to have you here!
Let me help you with the issue you have experiencing in regard your step counting.
Sometimes this kind of issue arrives when you don't sync your device. However, the steps should be added once you sync your device to your Fitbit account. Make sure to sync your device by following the instructions of our help article How do Fitbit devices sync their data? > How do I manually sync my tracker or watch?
If you are finding trouble syncing your device see our help article Why won't my Fitbit device sync?
In addition, sometimes when you add Mobiletrack to your Fitbit account, this may mess with step counting. The goal of mobiletrack is to track your stats when you leave your Fitbit device at home. However, if both are being installed, your device and your mobile, the app may not understands which amount of steps to take into account if both are being worn. See How do I track my steps with Fitbit with my phone?
If you have Mobiletrack installed, see the option to temporarily uninstall it and examine if you see an improvement in the step counting.
