Smart Wake only wakes me up during REM

Hello, I just bought the new Charge 6, mostly for the smart wake feature which has turned out to be a disaster.

Every time, it wakes me up once I start REM sleep. Literally, as soon as I enter it.

And yes, there is always a nice big chunk of Light sleep well within the 30 minute window, right before the alarm goes off, that would have been perfect to wake up in.

I have never felt so terrible waking up in the mornings, before this I was always able to guesstimate my sleep cycles and calculate the right alarm time with far more accuracy than smart wake.

Does this have something to do with heart rate settings? I find the heart rate zones innacurate for me, would changing them help this? Is this something that will improve with time? I basically always wear my watch well above the wrist bone for accuracy, so that shouldn't be the problem either.

I have a chronic illness that makes sleep extra important, I thought this feature would help but it has done the opposite.

Hello @Sunaga

I'm not sure why Smart Wake keeps waking you during REM. Hopefully, someone with more experience with that feature will have a suggestion for you.

Regarding your heart rate zones, have you had a chance to check your personal information in your Google account to make sure that your birth date is correct? A number of users discovered that their birth year was set to "1900", which impacted their heart rate zones and Activity Zone Minutes.

To check on your personal information:

  • Tap on your picture/icon (Android) / gear icon (iOS) in the upper left of the Today page
  • Tap on Manage your Google Account
  • Tap on Personal Info
  • If your birthday isn't correct, tap on it and update your birthday on the next page
  • Tap on the arrow in the upper left, then tap on the X to close the Google account page & return to the Fitbit app
