Syncing new fitbit

I got a new fitbit which says download the app. I have the app but it will not fully sync with the watch. I get vibration notifications but can't get the "download app" message to go away and show the clock and other apps. I turned bluetooth off/on. I force stopped/restarted. I hesitate to uninstall/reinstall the app.  Suggestions.

IOS or Android phone @LRA 

  • At what step of the setup process, does the Fitbit app fail at.
  • Does the Charge 6 show in the App as a connected device? If so, remove and try again. 
  • Is the Charge 6 connected to its charger? It should not matter, unless the battery is low. 
  • If you have an android phone, the Fitbit app should have notified you, without opening the Fitbit app, that a Charge 6 was found.
