I don't think you can, just as there is no way when walking/running outside, though when outside I suppose you usually get to go downhill also.

Makes sense. I have stopped running on a level treadmill and started doing inclined walks. As a result my cardio fitness score has gone down. I reckon this is a gap/ limitation of Fitbit.
So wanted to check if anyone is facing a similar issue.

I wouldn't have thought treadmill performance would affect cardio fitness score at all.
The other part is if you do a few actual outside runs, preferably on the level, with GPS for at least 10 minutes. That will give you a exact score rather than a range. Other than that, my understanding is that the effect of exercise such as treadmill on fitness score is just how the exercise effects your resting heart rate and weight.
