Is it possible to receive what’s app messages on charge 6 and if so how?

Yes. On the main page of the Fitbit app on your phone tap the device button (top left corner where device's battery percentage is shown). On the next page click on your device (Charge 6). Scroll down  and under General tap on Notifications. Then under App Notifications select Whatsapp or any other app you want notifications to appear on the band.
