At the moment, logging food via barcode scanning is only supported for the US food database. I would like the option of food scanning for international food databases as well with nutrition facts.
it has a great database, plus i can add recipes from an http link!
If only Fitbit would catch up!
I would prefer Fitbit, first it would be one app plus i would get premium for the reports.
Until fitbit food database allows the addition of new products as suggested in this thread, it is not worth going premium, since i have to sue a 3rd party app.
Secondly fiitbit interface is more tidy and comprehensive.
It would be just great to use all of fitbit'sw awesomeness in one app.
Considering food databases, it would be nice if Fitbit would be smart enough to use crowd-sourcing power to create various international databases. There is not just UK and Germany in Europe and products available at national markets differ considerably. Fitbit, just give us the tools to build those databases. Tools like barcode scanning! It would be nice if I could select database where to add the food (e.g. Czech database), when creating the new food. Please make it happen! It doesn't cost such an effort!
Absurd that this feature is not implemented in this app. Of course, when all Fitbit staff can use this feature without issues in the US, it gets little attention.
I know this only has 390 or so upvotes but this is core functionality which is actually advertised within the app. We don't even get so much as a "This feature does not work in your country". The button is there it just doesn't work which has people thinking it's a bug.
It is really a surprise that this thread and request has been open for 2 years. A lot of my friends have Fitbits (as do I) but we really can't use the feature.
I really hope a moderator will just come on here and tell us: Thank you for spending a lot of money on a device and also using our app but you can forget about this feature.
I guess they won't because it would look like bad business. Stakeholder Engagement 101: Ignoring an issue raised by your stakeholders (i.e. us your users and hopefully clients not customers - you are welcome to ask me about the difference) will not make it disappear! We will keep on asking for it and if you don't we'll just get other devices
As this thread has been open for such a long time, I would suggest removing this feature from non-US apps, as it is a tease to something that we cannot use in the UK. Worse, when it says 'Not found. Want to help out?' It looks like the app is broken, as you cannot help out, and there are no options to go further.
It's an option. I can't believe they included it for non us customers. It was surely going to upset people if they could not use such a simple feature.
UK - I have just bought my first Fitbit, previously I had a Jawbone. I am amazed to find that not only can I not scan bar codes, but when adding manually (very tiresome and time consuming), it won't let me use a point for 0.5!!! I came onto this forum today thinking I'm missing a trick, but no, it's not useable and when manual, not accurate. I will be contacting Fitbit to ask for some money back to cover the cost of this nonexistent feature and time for adding manually sub par data.
So disappointed. Thinking of going back to Jawbone, at least it all worked...I only didn't because they don't appear to be updating their app any more and may be stopping fitness trackers - shame!
Yes, I couldn't believe how long this issue has been open for!! Jawbone did this successfully ages ago. I'm very tempted to return my new Fitbit and go back to Jawbone.
I'm not sure if there's a separate thread open for the fact that you can't put in a point (0.5) something either.
The food log is a main feature and I bought mine because it was one of the features. Fitbit are surely miselling their products, I'm sure that there are laws that cover this type of thing.
Please please can we get the barcode scanner updated. Now we are able to track micro nutrients it would be really great to have this feature fully functioning for the UK. Yesterday I scanned all of my food and only one thing was recognised and that was a sugary naughty snack. I don't want to have to use a second app to track food when everything else I use is within the fitbit app.
So, how is this not implemented yet? I looked back through the database, and the "solution" advising it was for US users only & to use MFP was nearly 2 years ago.
If this app is so reliant on MFP, why don't Fitbit work collaboratively with MFP to integrate their food databases, save having to use 2 different applications to perform 1 job?
It seriously boggles the mind that something this simple would take so long to add.
