Notify me on device when battery is critically low

There should be a feature where your Fitbit actually vibrates and notifies you when the battery is getting critically low. There has been several times where I've gone to the gym and realized it's either already dead or very close to dying and then dies mid-workout

I would like to get text alerts of push notifications when my fitbit flex battery is low.  Right now, I am only getting them via email.  And if they do come as push notifications, they are gone too quickly.

I definitely back this suggestion. Currently there is no low battery warning of any sort. Ideally when battery goes below 10% Ionic should even go to a low consumption mode (for example stopping HR and GPS tracking, reducing brightness)

That’s an interesting idea and could be useful, thanks for sharing this suggestion.

Scenario: Wake up in morning only to discover your fitbit is showing low battery. More relevant on those devices that don't show the battery level.

Could something be done so that the fitbit checks the battery level before you go to bed? If the battery level is just above the level that would trigger the low battery warning and it's (for example) after 9pm, the low battery warning should be triggered early.

right now,  I receive an email when my fitbit battery is low, which is nice, but  I would like to suggest that an option would be given to instead receive an instant SMS Text Message.  I don't always check my email very often.

@k2star then go to your notification settings and add sms text to your low battery notification. You may also turn off email. I set mine up this way about 4 years ago.

Please remember the tracker needs to sync while on a low battery state for the server to know and send a message.

Also when the battery of all fitbits get critical the tracker itself will worn the user .It then, a few hours later shit off the heart monitor, followed by the display .Doing this allows the tracker to last a few more hours to record steps .

@Rich_Laue The Ionic doesn't give any warning when the battery gets critical, at least not mine. Any settings in the tracker or app should I check? Thanks!

When mine gets low, the next time I look at it, there is a red battery icon displayed .

Hi @1AmandaBee6 and many commenters! Thanks for sharing this idea. Our development team are keen to hear more from you about what you specifically want.

Currently:

  • You receive an email notification when your device is at 20%
  • You can see in the mobile app that your battery is low (it will be marked red)
  • On newer devices like Fitbit Ionic and Versa, the battery will overlay your clock face in red to show you that the battery is low

What exactly do you want to be notified? For example:

  • An on-wrist vibration
  • A push notification to your phone
  • An alert that you have to dismiss in the app?
  • An alert that you have to dismiss on device? (or would this get annoying?!)
  • More emails, eg. one at 10%
  • Any other ideas?

Please let us know your thoughts!

Some of you might also be interested in this related suggestion around battery estimated until charge which might help manage battery life more effectively.

I want a vibration with a notice on the firbit itself. However the Push notificantion in the App that just rolled out has helped too!

I would like a ouch notification and/or a notification that I have to dismiss. The email notification gets lost in all the clutter. And the red or yellow bar in the app is only noticed if you happen to be inside the app checking.

Hey Liz!
Thanks so much for getting back to me/the others. Personally I would love if my actual fitbit device vibrated with a notification that my battery was running low, an option to have a pop up on your phone would also be nice but I’d definitely prefer if my fitbit were to actually vibrate and notify me over anything else! Thanks!

Hi there, the main reason I don’t want it to vibrate is because it could wake you up if you are sleeping. I’m not opposed to having that as an optional feature but my main wish is to have a phone notification pop up so I don’t have to look at my email or be inside the app to notice.

Hi,

I have device on my wrist (Ionic) and this device should inform me about problems (low battery). And will be nice if I not miss it. Vibration and alert that I have to dismiss on device will solve my problem.

When the ionic gets to 30% it will display a red battery icon on the clock face. I then know that the ionic will need charging in 6-8 hours .

Not all watchfaces have beterry icon.

@LizFitbit you don't get any notification if you are tracking a sport activity, like when running.

Mine is old school - just the band. I just want them to show the low battery notification as a push notification on the app because the only way I can see it is if I happen to open the app or if I happen to see the email if it's not buried in my 1000 emails I get a day.

@kiborgai that is true, but the low battery indicator comes from the OS, and is independent of the watch face.

I have setup the app to send Fitbit notifications to the trackertand do get a low battery notification on the Ionic and Blaze.

@LizFitbit

Email notifications get buried between 100's of emails.

I'd suggest enabling by default 'on wrist' notification that the battery reached 20% and another one at critical 10%. And to please the ones who prefer not to have such a notification, to allow disabling those via the app.

I don't know what the newer devices have, but the Charge 2 needs it for sure.

I charge regularly but sometimes I completely forget. It would be nice to get a text or a phone notification when the ionic is seconds from zero charge. This way I don’t find out the next day or after workout.

completely agree. Please include Ionic... vibrate and more visual warnings on the watch itself. Make the settings customizable.

Hello everyone! I have some updates regarding this feature suggestion. So, the notification for batteries that are critically low won't be implemented in Fitbit devices. The reason why is because such notification will use a lot of battery, so it won't be good if the battery is already critically low. However, Fitbit is having a battery percentage to be shown on the display of all Fitbit devices. This will overlays clock faces when it's low too. On Charge 3 there will be a full screen overlay when battery is low. What do you think about this? Will that feature resolve this suggestion for you? Let me know with some replies! Smiley Very Happy

Seriously? Your developers should think of a job change. Almost all electronic devices we own do have a battery warning, why shouldn't it be available on a Fitbit watch?

On a Blaze there is a small icon in a corner, but that one comes very late usually.

That little red icon on the Blaze turns on when the battery gets down to 30%, at this time I still have over a day before the battery is critical.
