Returning Watch

I know this is a slightly new product but after a week I've decided to return my daughter's watch for the following reasons...

-Today speech mode randomly activated and would not turn off. Heck, we can't even find the setting but it takes the watch from a one finger method to a two finger touch. Many menus and settings you can't even access.

-We were misled in the initial of it being LTE. Sure, it is, but you can't communicate with anyone unless they have the app.

-One must register with a full Gmail account. So again, back to must use the app and the person must register the app with a full Gmail. A kid, business, or iCloud email won't work.

-Watch overheated today in 85 degree temps and would not let her do anything..kind of pointless as that point since Ohio is hitting 90s next week.

Sad to see you go!  If you're set on returning the watch, please return it to the original retailer.

Thanks for the info I was seriously thinking of buying this until I saw you need the app to communicate.

I'm reaching out to let the team know some of the feedback.  I hope neither of you mind, but I am including a link to this thread.

I will say I didn't mind the app too much but trying to get my 70 year old parents and my wife's to install and use another app on their phone was too much. Then I come to find out three of the people I really wanted to add I can't through the app because they don't have the proper email address or something. They had the app, were logged in, but my app denied me adding them and someone else posted on here they had to have a certain Gmail account only. Kinda defeats the purpose at that point.

It's not a certain type of email address: it's the widely-used gmail/Google email address, which is free to activate.

If it's so widely used why was my entire family on iCloud? Sure it's free but that doesn't make this restriction any less arbitrary. Out of 12 people in my family, 1 person had a usable Gmail. Another 2 had Gmail but they were gsuite, which like child Gmail accounts, don't work with this. Even many google accounts don't work with this. So odd.

Well said and it's not easy requesting a parent to create an email.account for their kid. Or an elderly grandparent to create an email account just to use one app.

Where is it documented child accounts don't work with this? Isn't that the entire point of the watch? I'm returning this too if that's the case.

Yes!! My son has been using his for the past week and I feel as though we were misled. I had no idea everyone would have to go through an app to communicate with him. What's the point? Not everyone has a Gmail account! I'm very frustrated. In addition, the battery life is horrible!

I am in the same boat. My 13 doesn't have a phone, but wanted something for family contacting, basic communication, etc. Unable to add either older brother (one on iphone, another has gmail but unable to add), an aunt on iphone, nor several of his friends.

The walled garden went too far.
