Giving up on Fitbit since app change

I've been a longtime, loyal customer with Fitbit (10+ years), but this last month has forced me to find another option now.

I could not log into the app for at least a week. It kept saying "server error, try again later." I was not able to see current info, such as weather on my watch. I wasn't getting any text notifications.

When I was finally able to log in, the ability to get relayed text messages has gone away. I haven't been able to get emails relayed for some time now. The personalized watch faces are now gone, too. When I go to "manage connected apps" on the Fitbit app, it shows a blank page that goes nowhere with no back arrow. I have to close the app to leave that page. Everything I read online as a "solution" says to click on your photo ID in the app to go to the pages for customization. However, that photo icon has also gone away in the app. I tried to call support and got someone who knew nothing and told me to just wait until it might be fixed!

The whole process makes me want to throw my Fitbit across the room! I am moving now to a different product.

Not being able to receive text message notifications on my Fitbit "smart" watch is the final blow for me. This last week or so made me realize how much I relied on that feature. I'm missing a lot of notifications from family and others. I'm not someone who carries a phone around constantly, but I do want to know if I have messages that need immediate attention.

It doesn't appear that this problem is fixable. When my app finally updated and I was able to log in again, I had to reselect all my preferences again. Why did it do that? But I still can't get text messages to work. There doesn't appear to be a fix for this. From what I've seen, they changed the app to comply with EU regulations, but I'm in the US.

Sadly, there has been no communication from Fitbit / Google about this massive issue.

The app update completely wrecked the app. I agree - I've pretty much given up on Fitbit after 3 years. I upgraded to the Inspire 3. The tracker itself isn't the best. I check for the 250 steps each hour - I'll manually count steps and after getting up to 400+ the tracker says 69. Takes forever to record.

But - my biggest complaint is the app. It will not sync. I read posts in the play store and everyone agrees - the 9/11/24 update ruined it. The Fitbit responses say to force stop and restart your phone. Sometimes that works, often it doesn't. Sometimes I have to uninstall and reinstall and sometimes that works - often it doesn't. I shouldn't have to go through those hoops daily to get it to work.

Anyone have any suggestions for a different tracker? Something a little more affordable than Garmin.

I cannot seem to be able to add any App connection. When I go to settings and manage my Apps, it takes me to a page that says "Applications - You have allowed these apps to interact with your account" and then below is an empty page with nothing. All white. I hope the next App update fixes this quickly as this is major feature missing at the moment.

After 9+ years using Fitbit, this latest snafu with the app and connectivity issues forced me to look elsewhere. Not getting messages from my phone was the final straw because it made me realize how much I relied on that. I don't want to have to constantly check my phone. With the current status on Fitbit, I was missing out on messages I needed. I often didn't know the app wasn't connecting.

I just bought a Garmin Lily 2, and so far, it is so much better than the Versa 2. It is much smaller than the Versa 2 and looks more like a regular watch. Battery life is 5+ days, too. It does have a monochrome screen, but that doesn't bother me. I'm getting messages from ALL my phone apps that I have allowed for messages. It makes me realize the potential I didn't have with Fitbit.

The Garmin app works well so far, and I find it easy to use and customize.

And I paid $199 for the Lily 2 on sale. I didn't want to pay $400+ for a smart watch.

I found the same issue. And then it doesn't give you an ability to go back so you have to close out the app. I tried calling support, which was no help.

I did stumble upon a way to reselect some of the options again. Click on the battery icon in the top left. It will take you to some personalization options from there.

Even after finding that option, I still had some issues with everything working, however.

Thanks for the suggestion. Fitbit has just become too frustrating. I'll check this one out.

I think that Google is trying very hard to destroy Fitbit and push us to buy Google watches. I'm giving up on Fitbit as well. I've used Fitbit for 7 years, but Google's purchase of Fitbit has utterly ruined the app, and therefore the watches are basically useless. Whatever devices I use next, I'll make sure they have nothing to do with Fitbit and/or Google. I hate Google. Google ruins EVERYTHING.

I looked at the Pixel watches in detail. Reviews for the first two versions have not been great, but they still haven't fixed the battery life with the third version either. I don't want a watch I have to charge EVERY day, and certainly not for a $400 smart watch.

So far, the battery life on the Lily 2 is great. I've had it since 9/19, and it was down to 20 percent battery today - after 7+ days!
