Hello,

My New York Times app has just stopped working. Has anyone else experienced this issue? It is up to date also.

Thx

Welcome to the Community Forums @j_poze. Have you tried restarting your Fitbit?

I'd recommend to follow the troubleshooting steps provided in the help article: How do I set up and troubleshoot apps on my Fitbit device?

Give this a go and let me know the outcome, I'll be around.

Ok, I did not see your post until after I posted my issue.

Yes, same problem.  NYT does communicate with the phone, no errors, but when it comes back, it has old news data, nothing new for a long time now.

At least it communicates with the phone which then allows the watch to Sync with the phone without always trying to find the device and failing.

And as a Tech, I do the usual troubleshooting.

Restart the phone (forced restart by pressing and holding the button for many seconds until the watch resets).

I have the following ENABLED:

  •  all permissions
  • All-Day Sync
  • Always Connected
  • Keep-Alive Widget

Since there is not "Reset" option, I have uninstalled and reinstalled it.  It asks to check off:

  • Internet
  • Run in Background

I have enabled both.

After re-installation and launched, it then complains that it is not connected to the phone!

Of course it's connected to the phone!  IT INSTALLED from the phone to the watch!!

I finally got it to sync and NYT finally got data, after a few attempts.

SYNCING IS NOT STABLE with this FitBit Versa Lite!

My previous Samsung Gear S3 never ever has syncing problems. Just battery issues, which is why I switched to FitBit.  Plus, this FitBit Versa Lite is a lot smaller physically and more comfortable to wear.

I may be returning this FitBit Versa Lite.  This syncing problem that is being reported by many is clearly NOT getting addressed by FitBit and this is a lot of money to have spent on something that is NOT STABLE!

HOWEVER, the developers should be aware of this problem and have code that figures out that there is a problem and will automatically reset the code from a fresh start.

There should also be an option on the app itself to Reset, which would clear all variables and start the code fresh.

I similarly started to notice a malfunction in the NYT app. I had the Fitbit Versa but after a year it stopped working; Fitbit sent me a Versa 2 -which started producing this problem with the app.

I go to click the app and nothing happens, it flickers,  then goes back to my app menu, not into the New York Times stories.

I have to uninstall the NYT app on Fitbit, then reinstall.

I agree it happens frequently and developers should be aware.

Rolcan, I just uninstalled NY Times.  It just wasn't worth keeping it there.

If you are finding that you can't uninstall it, try to INSTALL it again, restart the FitBit then try to uninstall again.

If it's doing this, it could indicate corruption in the app or cache.

You might want to completely factory reset the FitBit.  You may have to search how to do that.

That would clean things right up.

As for syncing, I just gave up on that.

It works here and there, but not all the time.

It usually works enough times so I know when the battery is needing charge.

One thing to possibly search is how to force the FitBit to keep the Bluetooth radio active.  I think that was the problem.

It would go to sleep and then have a hard time reconnecting.

I'd love to upgrade to the top-of-the-line FitBit, but if these are having these problems and the DEVs don't seem to want to take ownership of it and fix it, then I won't buy another one of their products.

I like products that have good support.
