About: Community Ranks

ANSWERED

What does it mean to be a Jogger, Hill Runner, or 5K Racer anyway?
Your rank is an indication of your involvement in the Fitbit Community. If you continually visit the forums, your rank will change to reflect the time you've spent here. By posting and contributing to discussions, you may progress even further through the rank structure and unlock additional account priveleges.

Your Rank title is displayed beneath your profile picture and Community name.

What determines my rank?

Post count is not the only factor that is included in the rank formula--that would be too simple! In addition to creating content for the Community, you get points when your answers are voted up or accepted as solutions. Voting for other helpful posts and being the first to respond to other member's questions can bring you even closer to achieving your next rank.

How can I rank up?

The easiest way to rank up is to visit often and add value where you can. The rank structure was developed to compliment the wide variety of ways you can engage with your fellow Fitbitters. As a community member, you can vote for the posts you find helpful, post new questions and then identify and approve the solution that helped you most (these are called Accepted Solutions). You can also comment on feature suggestions and start new discussions around topics of interest. It's a combination of these activities that will help you to achieve the next rank.

Hint: Scroll to the bottom of any community board and click through to posts in the Unanswered Topics section to help new members, rack up more points, and earn yourself a place on the Most Helpful Authors leaderboard!

I skipped a rank, is this normal?
Ranking formulas are calculated using Boolean logic. Your journey through the rank system might not be as straightforward as Jogger > Recovery Runner > Base Runner. You could actually skip from Jogger all the way to Strider if the conditions were right. For example, if you started off taking your First Steps and then posted 10 times, but didn’t receive any votes on those 10 posts until 100 days later, by which time you had posted 20 more times and received 5 Accepted Solutions, you might jump ahead to becoming a Strider even though you’d have skipped a good 3 ranks in the process.

I don't identify as a runner at all, can I opt out or customize my rank title?

Community ranks are designed as a lighthearted way to encourage engagement and offer other members a little extra insight into your participation here. They are not linked to any individual preference or setting, and it's not possible to opt-out.

Community ranks and reputation

While ranks can give you a general understanding of how much expertise another member has and how engaged they are in the community, the best way to get to know fellow community members is by striking up a conversation with them! You can also learn more about the other members here by visiting their profile page (to view another member's profile page, click on their community username).

This morning I had two tasks to do in town - return some parts to the auto parts store and take some mail to the post office, and the two are about 1/2 mile apart. So, I drove to town, stopping at the auto parts store and returned the items. Then, I walked down to the post office to mail the letters, and walked back to auto parts store. It was an easy way to get 2,400 steps in....  Smiley Happy

I got a little rash on my wrist but I loosened it up and everything is fine now. Plus I have lost 25 lbs so far. That is a good thing. What kinds of things are you concerned about?

Best Answer

@LHelm  I would be more concerned about the cell phone many people seem to have attached to their head all the time.  But the question you raise perhaps has some merit, but who knows at this point?

I don't wear my Fitbit during sleep as it keeps me awake worrying about it..
I prefer to take a break from technology and rest well.

As a bit of a techno geek, I frankly don't worry about wearing my Alta at night, or all day long.  I do not wear it tight anyway but more like a bangle bracelet-on the loose side.  I charge it when I either have down time or when the mood suits me to do so.  It does not bother me during sleep.  I do understand that any of them might bother a person for whatever reason, but I choose not to be paranoid about wearing it as much as I do.  I absolutely do not expect everyone to agree with me on this, and that does not bother me one iota.

Over the years, I have noted a number of individuals that shall we say.........march to the beat of a different drummer.  We all should if the truth be known.  As far as I can tell, that is a wonderful thing.  Diversity is one of the things that makes the world go round..........and round...........and round..............LOL!  How we each choose to utilize our own Fitbits is a very personal choice and I respect those who do things their own way.

Bottom line?  If it motivates you to move more than you used to, it's a beautiful thing!  We as a group are choosing to live a healthier lifestyle.  That's what it is all about anyway!

Happy Stepping!

I was wondering the same thing - I have been trying to figure out why my community name is different from my main account name.  And it says I am a "jogger" - I don't remember ever choosing this! What makes a person a "jogger" or a "strider"? Are these assigned based on your steps?

@唐老师  read the very first entry in this discussion as it will explain the ranking system.  That should help you.

Thanks! I appreciate that - sorry for not noticing the beginning of the
thread. I'm new to this part of the fitbit system.

It's basically to tell who is active in forums, discussions, etc.
It's a way to get others to be more involved in the fitbit community.
Hope this helps! God Bless!!

I found out I was  a  "first steps" member???  Now what is that supposed to be compared to? After a year, I don't seem to be moving along too rapidly!!

Hope to at least reach the "second steps" before long !!!!!

As I have other friends on FitBit I love competition and taking longer walks while discovering new adventures with camera on hand gives my FitBit great meaning to me.

@oldster72 If you want to pass the first steps you just need to post in the forum more.

Hi oldster72,
Beckylyn was right ranks only reflect community involvement. That are not a reflection of your achievements in stepping. Those that have lower levels of steps may have a higher ranking because of forum participation. The reverse is true also.
All that really matters is making Fitbit work with you towards your goals.
That being said the more the merrier in forums for solutions, motivation and help with questions.
Welcome aboard. Happy trails:glowing_star:
