unsubscribing to email notifications

Is there someway to "shut off" or unsubscribe to email notifications when someone replies in a thread that either I have started or responded in?  I am getting probably 20 - 30 emails everyday on the Force and I want it to stop!  Thanks!

You are automatically subscribed to any threads in which you participate, unless you choose to unsubscribe. You can also turn off this auto-subscription in your settings, if you don't want your account to work that way.

Not only am  getting bombarded with messages, they are not relevent.  i am unscribing also.
