Charged for “free” trial subscription

Previously used the 6 month free trial. Recently started using Fitbit again. A msg popped up for “new and returning” users to try Fitbit Premium. I selected annual renewal at the end of the trial period. At the Apple Pay page it said “you will be charged $0 until June 2024” then immediately charged my bank $104 + tax. 

Fitbit support just kept saying over and over “it’s for new users, you’ve used it before” and I kept saying “it said returning users, and on the payment screen it said I would be charged $0 until June.”

She asked if I had a screenshot. Sooooo wish I’d taken one! Trusting what the app stated, sadly I did not. 

She then went to check if this was a known issue. Given the number of posts I see on this, I’d say it is. She came back, said nothing they could do, deal with Apple. What?! This is a Fitbit issue. I asked for a supervisor, was told none available, someone would “email” me. I asked if they could call me. Nope. 

I’ve noticed in all the posts about this, Fitbit reps keep replying with the same standard verbiage “it’s for new users only.” Nothing addresses the fact that it said “new and returning users” and nothing at all addresses the fact that on the payment screen it actually states you will not be charged for 6 months - with the exact end date! 

Abysmal customer service. The supervisors hide behind emails, and in the forum they hide behind standard verbiage with no relevancy to the actual problem. Fitbit, get your act together.

I've had exactly the same issue...I had to reboot my account due to technical issues...was offered a free trial And accepted..was instantly charged €79.99... spent 3 hours trying to request assistance...they use a third party support for this...constantly declined my request to log a complaint..the worst customer service I 've ever encountered

Hi, Did you get a refund from apple. Fitbit are saying to me it is 1 per account the trial. I feel totally conned. As it does say like yourself returning users also.

Update: received refund through Apple. 

Fitbit sent me an email that said it is Apple that limits the free trial to once per customer, NOT Fitbit (which is the opposite of what the Fitbit service rep told me on the phone).  Here’s a snippet of the email…

Regarding your premium subscription issue, please note the Premium trial is offered once per app store account, not Fitbit account, which means that you were charged because under your app store account has been already used a Premium trial for your app store account.”

I’m very wary of an app whose company takes no responsibility, doesn’t offer any assistance in getting your money back when a mistake is made, and then blames it all on their affiliated partners.

Meanwhile, I had already applied for and received a refund through Apple. I hope you all do get a refund as well.
