Free Premium trial won't activate

Just bought a new FitBit Charge 6. Everything says it's supposed to come with a free 6-month trial of Premium, but there's no option in the app for a free trial - just the annual and monthly plans. Checked online, says it's supposed to be available. How do I activate the free 6 months?

Hello there @HaukeaAcct, I'm pretty happy to see you back!

This is a pretty common issue, and there's an easy way to solve this; let me explain. In order to redeem the free trial, it is necessary for the system to access it, that you choose one of those two options: either the 6-month plan or the yearly option. Once you have chosen one, it would request your credit information, and it would give you the option to start the free trial.

The thing you need to keep in mind is that you have to cancel the subscription before the trial ends. If you don't do that, the auto-renewed plan will make the purchase automatically for the option you chose today.

I'm not seeing an option for a free trial on the app. It wants to charge me $104.99+GST CAD for an annual membership or $12.99+GST CAD for a monthly - it says nothing about it being free for 6 months, and prompts me to verify my purchase. I do not have the money for an annual membership, and I can't afford to be billed for one.

Hey @HaukeaAcct, thanks for replying back!

I totally understand the hesitation about this process, let me explain myself better:

1. In the Fitbit app, tap the You tab, and tap Try Fitbit Premium

2. Choose a 1-year or monthly subscription to start after your trial, and press on the option that sais "Try Fitbit Premium"

3. Once you press on the "Try Fitbit Premium" button, you will see the following screen

So in this case, if you tap the blue "Subscribe" button, you will get Fitbit Premium for free for six months. If you don't cancel by December 14, 2025, your card will be automatically charged $79.99 for the following year.

I’m not getting a “Try Fitbit Premium” option, or anything like what you’ve shown. I only have a “Get Fitbit Premium” and no trial option or offer like you’ve shown.

Same thing happened with me. I purchased an Inspire 3 with the same offer. Can’t find the activation anywhere. I’m a current premium user so I didn’t get an email with any activation codes. I cancelled my membership on Apple subscription set for 6/24/25, but still have no options to activate the new one.  This isn’t a very clear or easy process. Online searches keep taking me back to the same useless page. Send help! lol 🙂

It would be a simple fix if the 6 month trial plan was actually an option. It’s only showing a monthly plan or annual plan. My premium subscription was paid through Apple previously. I did cancel this effective 6/24/25. The device itself was a promo email purchased through Google store, so I’m not sure where this trial/promo membership has to be activated? I’m hoping that it will show up somewhere after the June 24th expiration date. 😞

I’m not either. I don’t even have what you see. This is what I have.

Is this for those new to premium subscriptions? I’m a current user and I have nothing like this.

Hey @JulieVK @HaukeaAcct, thanks for getting back to me, let's keep working together!

First, I'd like to confirm: did you guys have your devices already set up on the account? If you haven't set up the device, there's no way for the app to access this offer. Second, if you already have a Premium Subscription on your account, you must wait till it expires, which is different from canceling the subscription.

Please make sure neither of these two specific factors are part of the problem.

Yes, my device is already set up on the Fitbit account, and I’ve been wearing it. My previous premium subscription was paid through Apple. I cancelled the subscription a while ago as I was not planning on renewing it this month. I cancelled it so I wouldn’t automatically renew on 6/25/25.

Thanks @JulieVK, for the confirmation!

Ok so, let's set up that the cancellation isn't quite the same as an expiration when it comes to your Premium features.

Even though you've canceled your subscription, you won't lose access to those Premium services until your current subscription officially expires. Think of it as getting to enjoy all the benefits you've paid for until the very last day! In your case, that expiration date is June 24th.

So, you'll need to wait until June 24th to activate your free trial.
