According to the daily Active Minutes view, I need 2 more minutes, for a total of 52 minutes, to beat yesterday.
But according to the weekly Active Minutes view, I only had 44 active minutes yesterday, so I've already beaten yesterday. I also confirmed that 44 active minutes for yesterday was correct by looking back at yesterday's data.

I see the same problem with my data as you on my dashboard. found your post searching to check if anyone else has my same dashboard problem. I noticed this months ago but didn't raise the concern at the time.
is anyone else noticing that 'beat yesterday' is incorrect on the dashboard. must be in daily view of active minutes to see the data, just as SebringDon has shown in the images he posted.

I figured this one out-
Behind the scenes FitBit determines Minutes Lightly Active, Minutes Fairly Active, and Minutes Very Active. You can only see these separately if you download your data.
On the Dashboard (and in the apps) the Active Minutes displayed are the sum of Fairly Active + Very Active.
For the "Beat Yesterday" number to be relevant versus the Active Minutes that are diplayed, the calculation should be: Yesterday (Fairly Active+Very Active) - Today (Fairly Active+ Very Active). However it appears that only Very Active minutes are being used in the calculation for "Beat Yesterday" Here is a few days of my data to illustrate:
This should be very easy for FitBit to correct. I will post this is feature requests as well and we will see what happens.

EXCELLENT ANALYSIS. I think you are spot-on with your conclusion.
I hope that FitBit corrects the dashboard, especially since it seems to me it's a feature that was overlooked when ACTIVE MINUTES changed to be the sum of Fairly Active + Very Active minutes.
THANK YOU for all your detail.
