Stolen Fitbit

My Fitbit was stolen.  Several things that I learned was;  I can only recoup lost or stolen products if I purchase the extended warranty, the Fitbit device itself does not have a GPS so it cannot be tracked, and the device can be connected to any device if I revoke it from my app.  If I do not revoke the stolen device, is the device useless? Can it be synced to another device if it’s synced to my account? If I’m reporting the device stolen can there be a way render the device unavailable to since to another device?

I think it could be factory reset, after which it could be associated with any other account.

So, if someone steals a fit bit, they can do a factory reset and render the Fitbit useable with another account?
Doesn’t this give people incentive to steal smart products? Why buy it if you can steal it?
