Why does my Fitbit say I burn around 3000 to 3800 calories doing nothing?

I was wondering why my Fitbit says I burn around 3000 to 3800 calories daily when I do nothing and stay at home all day. I average around 2000 steps and yet I burn over 3000 calories daily. Does this make sense?

It probably has something to do with your heart rate. I'm not sure what else it could be other than that.

You burn energy (calories) just to be alive, it is called BMR, Basal Metabolic Rate.

It depends on many factors and a simplify formula can give you a rough estimate just with age, gender, height and weight.

You can find an handy calculator here.
