I get my 10,000 before work, but I don't leave for work till 5PM!
I do my walk first thing when I get up around noon.

I switched from doing 'purposeful' walks during my lunch hour to pre-work walks a couple months ago and my results have been great! I get up at 4:30 and hit the road within 15 minutes and go about 6-7.5 miles. Then I have time to cool down, shower, and get ready for work.
A did notice a couple benefits and strategies that work (for me, your milage may vary)
1) I'm usually not 'mentally awake' until about 2.5 - 3miles in and have conquered 'the hill' (long gradual, ever increasing slope - calf burner)
2) I have a 'pit stop' along the way (usually 4 miles in - a Royal Farms/7-11). I grab a cup of coffee, keep the legs moving, but take a quick rest and then basically starting anew for my last 2-3.5 miles
3) By the time I get back, the Flex is at or so near 5 lights that, in sense, my 'day' is aall ready over and anything added is 'just gravy' (bonus!)
So far, I've lost 78 pounds since January and shooting for the century mark for weight loss by my 40th Birthday in September and the Flex (along with Runkeeper) help out big time by making me accountable.

That's exactly what I keep trying for - great stepping!
