Today is New Year's Eve and my mind is buzzing with ideas for the upcoming year!
Having my lovely Fitbit on my side will certainly help me reach my goals for 2015. Some of them are weight and health related but a couple of them are to rest, make me step out of my comfort zone and try new things
So far I have:
How are you going to use your Fitbit towards your 2015 goals?

-Hit my weight loss goal (21 lbs to go!)
-complete a 5k
-sleep at least 7 hours a night consistently
Doesn't look too hard from here but working full time and running a retail business means I really have to focus more on me instead of making myself the last priority!

Guessing you're just starting out....right? Would be helpful to know you current level of activity/fitness. Wouldn't suggest going from Level 0 to P90X....that's a huge leap...
Also, what are your overall goals? Lose weight? Tone up? Both? This will take some time, but remember -- repetition leads to adaptation leads to habit leads to change! Just have to reprioritze your time and retrain your body from well established habits.
1st...just get moving. Try to reach your step goals each day. Easy pace walking around the block. Feeling good, pick up the pace to faster walking and if still good to an on/off jog...
2nd...adjust your food. Will be working against yourself if picking up the pace with exercise but still eating crap. Whole-foods, avoid highly processed foods (nothing that comes in a box and says 'add water, heat and eat') and white foods....white bread, rice, etc..whole grain. As much fruit and veg as you like. If you hardly eat veg, like most americans (and veg doesn't include french fries or potato chips). Looking for nutrient per caloire ratios here. You want to eat like 6x a day....meal, snack, meal, snack, meal, snack. Have spinach with EVERYTHING...fiber is filling, nutrient dense, calcium and protein. Drink lots of water. Most don't drink enough...
3rd,,,add in first 7-15 days of basic body weight exercises. Pushups (all varieties standard, wide, narrow, military, chair squats (goal 100/day), stretches, calf raises (toes in, toes straight, toes out), plank position (goal is 2+ minutes.....on your toes, and your elbows under your shoulder, don't let your butt stick up or sag down...hold and BREATH...time it...maybe only get 30secs at first...write it down...do it every day and watch your time go UP!! works your whole core..back/abs,etc.), pull-ups if you have access to a bar,
4th...As your speed in reaching your step goals improves, and you get some solid body conditioning in, add in something like the suggestion above...zumba, Just Dance, etc....good for cardio, getting into the fat-burning mode, while stll working the toning of your shoulders/legs/body by still including the body weight workouts.
In your case, I might strongly suggest right after waking up...before you eat anything...knock out 100+ bodyweight squats, mix in some pushups...then speed walking...looking to get into the fat burning zone by having your body low on fuel, and needing energy...20 mins of quality speed walking on empty stomach...
Want more? Post up questions here. Can move you into the shred zone quickly...
🙂

So being healthy about it - realize that fastest weight loss and healthy don't go together.
You didn't gain the fat fast, don't try to lose it fast or it'll include muscle mass.
Weight and fat loss is caused by eating less than you burn daily.
Exercise is about transforming the body, and making it great when the fat is gone and you can see it.
To that end dual goals -
Do enough daily so your eating level is still high enough to adhere to.
Eating really low and binging all the time doesn't accomplish much.
So some cardio can help there to increase what you burn daily. Eat less than that higher amount, it could be almost what you are eating now.
But to retain the muscle mass, and have something to expose once the fat is gone, do resistance training. Strength training if possible, because the repair from a good lifting session burns more fat.

Now that I think of it, I realize that I didn't include too many exercise activities in my goals for this year. I will say that I will start working out at least 3 times per week. I will go to swim with my wife once per month and last but not least important, I will eat healthier. Hopefully I accomplish each task every month.

Wow, that would help alot. I weighed in again and i am gaining weight....and i know its not the good weight. What can i do to start doing better about eating and following through with my work outs. I know there is a mind set thing going on but i think there has to be more than that.

Thank you. What types of things would you suggest for strength training. i feel like i missed all the training i needed in gym because we had a gym teach that had a tv in his office.....and if we could talk to him about what was on it we could watch with him.....yeah crazy right. so i dont even know how to really work out....but i have never really looked in to it either.

Hey @Caleb-R!
If you have a phone app might I suggest trying Nike Training Club? It's a free workout at that takes you through the exercise from beginning to end with pictures, videos and it includes mostly body weight exercises (when you've been there awhile you can start incorporating weights). If you are looking to go to the gym, check out Bare Minimum Progressive Resistance Training here - http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/belfert_bmt5.htm.
Both plans allow you to start at the beginner level and increase from there, which is always the way to go.
As far as motivation, my motto is that you are your own best motivation. Take your excuses and shove em, lol. Recognize it as an excuse, MAKE A PLAN (reaaaally crucial to creating a routine and sticking to it), and make like Nike and JUST DO IT!
Also, you have to log everything. I can't tell you how important this part is. Make it a goal to log ALL of your food for a week. Then when you've done that, move to two weeks, then a month and so on. Food is a maker and a breaker as I've learned from experience. We usually take in more calories than we think we do, so adjusting and managing that will send your weight loss into overdrive.
Message me if you need help or have questions, I've been doing this for 8 years and while I'm not an expert, I have figured out what works and what doesn't.

Fitbit has changed my life - I don't leave home without it - my Fitbit One has made me so much more healthier - met many new friends - became a jogger/runner - rebounder - lost 50 pounds - new goals for 2015 - motivate and inspire my Fitbit friends in addition to losing that last 20 pounds - doing weight training now with a personal trainer - on week 3 right now and am doing okay. I believe working out for the last two years with my Fitbit has my confidence up and strength up and I just keep trying new things - I am not a spring chicken but feel that age is just a number. Yes . . . Fitbit has changed my life - will always have one.

Booking running events or whatever is a BRILLIANT way to motivate you!
I have done Electric Run (A fun run) and plan to do spartan, tough mudder, colour obstacle rush etc... The goals are the best if they are specific. The idea of losing weight or being more toned or having better upper body is all very well but it is important to have specific ideas as to how that will happen 🙂
