Bored at work? Burn some calories!

Hi everyone!

Want to know a great way to stay in shape and burn calories while at work?

So, I based this thread off of one of our awesome work days here at Fitbit. Every Wednesday our office celebrates Work Out Wednesdays. (WOW)! On Wednesdays, we come to work mentally and physically prepared to work it out! We focus on a specific workout for that day. The best part is that it can be done in any office! Like this week, we're doing push ups to increase endurance and strength. We start off with 10 pushups and then increase by 5 every hour. If you're wondering, yes, it gets really tough after lunch but, its a GREAT way to keep burning calories, relieve stress at work AND it only takes a minute or two to do! Who knows, maybe you can get your office or a group to participate in a wourkout sesh like this?!

What other workouts are simple, fast and can be done at work to burn calories and stay fit!? Please share and join us tomorrow for WOW! #westartat9am :smileywink:

Phew! Sore @WendyB ! Going strong though!

I think we're going to do squats next week! Great idea! Another good one is wall sits! That does great things for your legs.

@WendyB That's awesome! 50 push-ups throughout the day is great. I know that's more than some people can do in my office Smiley Wink.  My legs are kind of sore but other than that, 5k in 27 mins! @EmilyEL was super fast and @EmersonFitbit was great too!

I work in a kiosk so it is kind of hard for me to get extra workouts in without looking like a total weirdo in fromt of a mall full of people so i do calf raises. No one really notices that and I walk around in circles when I have no customrs or anything to clean. Every little bit helps, just wish I could do the push ups without a customer walking up and asking "what are you doing"!

I see you @arock81 .  It would be interesting to see someone at a kiosk doing push ups in the middle of a mall. Calf raises are great way to stay active and I would just do laps around the kiosk as well. OR, I would get a squeeze ball while walking around the kiosk or doing leg lifts! Good job on staying active at work!

Great suggestions!  As we approach the cooler days of fall and say good bye to the hot summer ones I'm trying to get a 'walk for lunch' crew together at work.  So far I've heard more excuses why they can't do it 😞

I'm new to the Fitbit group. I work 12.5 hour shifts in a large room with no windows. I sit at a desk and monitor 10 different computer screens. There are 5 other people in the room with me. Just this weekend I got one of my co-workers to do a workout routine with me. Once an hour I would speed walk around the room ( 1 lap is .07miles), then do 10 curls with 20lb weights. It takes maybe 3 minutes total, but that little burst of exercise really gets your heart rate up. Hopefully we can keep this up. It ends up we do about 1 mile each day in laps alone, and 130 curls each arm with 20lb dumbbells.

@FB_Opus I'm sorry to hear that some people at your work aren't into your awesome idea. It's such a healthy way to get some fresh air and create a connection with your co-workers! Don't give up! Keep trying to get that group together, and I'm sure once they do it, they'll continue to do so. Smiley Happy

@BeeGee16 ! That's awesome! Don't you feel more productive too when you do those workouts? How many speed walks are you guys at right now? I find it makes me focus better when I do little workouts like that throughout the day.

@purplerose3 I have no idea what that is. Smiley LOLWhat is it?

@AriaCristina I know you must feel the burn if you have to make 100 copies of a 20 page document! Smiley LOL Great suggestions!

@RickyFitbit they were short lived, only 2 days worth. The other guy who I got to join me quit in the middle, lol, oh well. Maybe it was too much too soon.

Ricky,

A tele tech is someone that works at a hospital and monitors the telemetry (heart rhythms) of the patients. They are usually in a room with no windows with lots of computers in them!

I work at a hotel and unfortunately guests never take the stairs. So my coworker and I started a game where we will run up the stairs to the top floor and down. Then come back in the office a little out of breathe and put a dash under our name, whoever has the most dashes at the end of the day "wins". It is kind of silly but it gives us energy! We also hold random push up competitions to see who can do the most... like I said it is silly but every little bit helps!
