I'd like to join. How does it work? Do I start counting from today or add up what I've already walked this year? I started walking during the last week of April and started getting serious in the first week of May. I've got around 415 miles since then. If I have to start over that's fine. I'm always up for a challenge even if I'm just competing against myself. More motivation to walk.

Hi @BamaDan

You do not need to start over. What you have walked so far this year would count. I just sent you an invite to the group 🙂

Thanks for the invite!

II think it's an outside chance I'll achieve it, but who knows.

I am a bicycle rider.  Have covered 3,157km (about 1,962 miles) since Jan this year. But I will restart the count from August 2021 since I started wearing the Fitbit Versa 2 in this month.  Have covered 652 km (about 405 miles) in August so far.  😊

That is alot of miles @IBSukardi 🙂  I would love to start biking again. I used to love it when I was a teenager.

Going back to late last year I figured I'd never really have a shot at this goal for 2021, so I never threw my hat in the ring.  Why no shot?  I was coming off a broken leg in 2019 and then a long-haul case of COVID in 2020 and could barely move more than mile at a time by the end of 2020 due to painfully swollen knees.

As I've related elsewhere on this forum, I started very slow jogging (which I call "slogging") just before Christmas, and whaddya know, the slogging seemed to make my knees better.  The slogging progressed to what may well qualify as jogging, and from there I'd occasionally be able to actually run; things started looking good, in fact, very good to hit 2,021 miles by the end of this year as I'd logged 1,380 miles between 01-Jan and 12-Jul, then the wheels fell off the bus (figuratively, not literally); I ended up badly injured and spent a couple days in our friendly neighborhood ICU, half of it in a coma, and then lots of enforced convalescence once I was discharged.  Between 13-Jul and 31-Jul, I'd only managed to log another 25 miles, a rate which clearly wasn't going to get me anywhere near the goal for this thread.

The good news is I was cleared to start light exercise last week and am gradually getting back into the swing of things; not sure I can do enough to make up for lost time, but I'm going to give it a shot.  🙂

Sounds like you have had some rough times @shipo but are doing a great job of overcoming them 🙂 If you would like to join the group, we would be happy to have you be a part of it.

Thanks @cathm; at this point I figure I have maybe a 40/60 shot of hitting 2,021 miles; the next few weeks should give me a better idea of how my recovery is coming along.

A quick update; I still have a shot at hitting 2021 miles this year, but that shot just got a bit thinner.  Why?  Well, even though I had COVID early last year, and even though I was fully vaxxed this spring, I now have my second case of COVID.  It will be interesting to see how quickly I bounce back this time around.

Hi @shipo

Just wanted to check in and see how the recovery is going especially with the added COVID.

Thanks folks, this year's COVID infection has been like a walk in the park compared to last year's infection; I assume because I was vaccinated this last spring.  I'm not fully recovered yet, my breathing is still a bit limited, and no sense of smell and taste yet (it's really annoying when you're baking a home made sourdough rye loaf, chock full of caraway seeds and you cannot smell a thing), but I'm definitely making progress.  To that end I managed a very slow 4-mile jog yesterday before my lungs just said, "ENOUGH!"  🙂
