A few thoughts on stairs/floors

So, I live in a tri-level house.  I've got one flight of ten steps, and another of five, with a landing in between.  My Fitbit Charge HR only gives me credit for one "floor", if I go all the way up, both flights.  Which is unfortunate, since I spend most of my day running up and down the shorter flight!  (Or... NOT unfortunate, because it makes me work harder to get those extra flights in, right?!)  I still get credit for the steps themselves, even if they're not counted as a "floor".

And an almost completely unrelated subject... Today while I was trotting up both flights while carrying my 20-pound Lhasa apso (he's 13 and had 2 knee surgeries last week, poor puppy, so he gets to be carried up and down) I had the thought that we should totally get some extra credit for hauling dogs, kids, groceries, laundry up and down the stairs!  Smiley LOL  I swear Josh (my doggy) looks at me like "hey, we never used to RUN up the stairs lady!"

The flip side of that is, I've lost 22 pounds in the last 2 months.  It only just occured to me that two months ago, it was like carrying my dog 24/7!  Woot, go me!  LOL

So what about y'all?  What "extras" do you find yourself doing?  Heart

It is unfortunate you do not get credit for the short flight.... It will only give you credit for every 10 feet you travel upstairs (I believe).

I get credit for a flight of stairs when I go up 2/3s of my stair case.  So that is about 15 feet from bottom to top.

See if you get credit for 2 if you go from the first floor straigt to the 2nd (if the stairs are connected).

Interesting!  No, it doesn't record a "floor" unless I go up both flights together.  If I just do the 10-step flight by itself, it doesn't count that.  Makes sense though that it would measure by vertical feet, rather than steps taken.  🙂

It also has to do with barometric pressure, and not just vertical height... the fitbit has no way of knowing that it was 10', 30', or even 100' really.

I have the Surge, and when I went hiking this past weekend, it counted 27 flights, but that's up and down in the mountain, as well as going through tunnels so I have no idea how many it really was.

I can imagine in most houses (like mine), the pressure varies, but may not be enough for the Surge to notice.  This is the same reason that you can do 200 floors on a Stairmaster but still not count.
