April Showers (2021) — Step Challenge and Photo Scavenger Hunt

I’ve called this month’s challenge April Showers for three years running now. It is really hard to resist. We just get so much rain and MUD. But most of the cold (hot, if you live in the south) weather is gone and its a great month to be outside. Take your allergy meds and get out to see the brown go away and the nature’s colors start to spread.                                              

   
How It Works

The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.

 

Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”

 

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

 

Suggested Posting Format    
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

 

Picture Scavenger Hunt — 3 pictures 

The theme of the photo scavenger hunt this month is changing seasons. Beginning of Spring in the North and Fall in the South.  So blossoms for some of us, especially on the trees, and falling leaves for others.  Oh, and the mud.

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week

 

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

April Showers (2021) - Goals

6,000+ steps:  5 days

8,000+ steps:  10 days

10,000+ steps: 10 days

12,000+ steps: 3 days 

Bellicon (15-min program): 25 days

Lose 1½ kg 

Eat 1 piece of fruit: 25 days


The Bellicon is a mini trampoline with bands instead of metal coils. The 15-minute program exercises all muscle groups without damaging my joints. However, I still wear knee bands on it and the treadmill!

I start MTT (medical trainings therapy) mid-April (finally approved by health insurance) so hope to gain even more muscle strength in the next 3 months.

I'm hoping to get back on track this month and lose weight.  I was putting in some of the work, but the stress of medical nonsense has not helped any.  Of course, we are starting off the new spring month with a prediction of 4-6" of snow, so I will be starting off behind the 8-ball so to speak.

@Baltoscott  We did!  Not nearly as bad as they thought, thankfully.  My driveway is mostly clear (unless there was a small branch that fell, then that is snowy).  It's no more than 2" on the yard.  It should clear nicely in a few days!  It means I may be short steps today; first day of a new month too.  Ugh!

Surprisingly, the majority of the snow was gone before the end of my work day, and I was able to get out and get a long walk after work.  Then I woke to more snow on the ground this morning.  It'll probably disappear by tomorrow.  Until it warms up, I need some heavy sweaters.  It's 22F out!  Brrr.

Most of the color is on the trees right now, but I got a reminder that changing seasons isn't just about blooms. Winds and rot took this guy down.
