The fourth month of 2019 will bring more mud in my area. Like there isn’t enough already! But don’t let it get in the way of your goals. Temperatures should be a bit milder in both North and Southern hemespheres. Get outside and experience life! The photo theme this month is curtesy of @NellyG. See below for more details.
How It Works
The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.
Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”
Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.
Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total
Picture Scavenger Hunt — 3 pictures
The theme of the photo scavenger hunt is to find natural landmarks.
Grand Canyon
Does that mean no man-made structures at all? How about markers that tell us what we are looking at?
Are state borders natural? Probably not.
If it is a famous landmark how about posting without any description and asking us to guess. (Don’t make us wait too long)
Posting
Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week
Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

March was rough, but April will be better! I'm tweaking my goals just a bit based on what I accomplished last month and what I want to accomplish now that weather is nicer.
My Step Goal will start at 6075 - This is where I ended March and I was not quite hitting hit. I was jumping up 250 steps per week, but that seems to be just a bit more then I can do right now. So I'm only jumping 50 steps per week this month. But I'm also adding a few larger goals throughout the month.
Complete a 5K twice a week - This calculates at 7646 Steps in a day, at least 8 times a month.
Complete 10,000 once a week - Last month this was set at 9,000, but typically I barely hit my step goal or do a major hike with 10,000 to 11,000 steps easily achieved.
Active 6 of 14 hours a day - I'm typically hitting this one, but just barely so I'm still working on it.
Sleep goal 7+ hours a night - I feel better when I hit this every night, but realistically hitting it 15 out of 30 nights a week is still going to be hard.
Hit Peak Heart Rate every day - last month I easily hit the 12 times a month that was planned, but still not hitting it every day so I'm stepping up this goal! This is going to be hard with all the migraines I've had lately, but I'm making a commitment to do it!
Hit Peak Heart for 10 minutes or more once a week - My average seems to be 4-6 minutes a day, but this is the end goal to increase the time spent here more regularly.
Hit 100 minutes of cardio heart rate every day - This too is an increase from last month's 60 minutes a day.
1 minute plank every day - This usually happens before or after yoga, so if I can do this every day I will automatically hit my yoga goals too.
Water intake of at least 64 oz every day - Which is way lower then it should be, and automatically increases with higher steps, but right now this is a stretch for me.
Protein level at 20% or higher at least 10 days a month - This is the first time tracking levels, but it is my incentive to keep logging food which has become quite borrowing. I notice I usually only have 12-14% protein according to my FitBit app. My calories are always way too low, so my goal here is really to make more healthy eating choices including less carbs and more protein.
For the scavenger hunt I have many natural landmarks that are well known to the people who live in Upper Michigan, but probably not so well known across the globe. I visit a few regularly, but I'm going to step up that goal to try to find 3 new places near me that I have never been exploring. With all the waterfalls and nature surrounding me, that shouldn't be too difficult! I took these photos last year in April when I first moved to the U.P. so more of this type of nature awaits!

Have a great month everyone!

We live outside Bern, the capital city of Switzerland. This was taken a couple of years ago. It's about an hour's drive from our home.

It's been a few months since I've participated in a monthly challenge, but now that our weather is warming up, I'm feeling way more motivated to get outside. Treadmill running in the winter is awful.
I'll try to find a natural landmark, but Oklahoma isn't particularly known for beautiful views...
