Dancing December Step Challenge and Scavenger Hunt

Here we are — the last month of the year, holiday food everywhere you look, all sorts of social obligations ... so .... why not recommit to your minimum daily fitness/eating goals -- and maybe even DANCE a bit around the mistletoe -- just to make sure you don’t lose the baseline you’ll aim to beat next month when you plan out 2019? 

 

General monthly instructions are below, including the monthly picture scavenger hunt.                                 
How It Works

The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.

 

Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”

 

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

 

Suggested Posting Format    
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

This month look for and post pictures of at least 3 outdoor holiday displays while out and about.

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week

 

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

@Mel9 It's well below freezing here from now until March.  So I simply dress for the cold weather and walk outside ...mostly.  It was easier this past week and will also be easy this coming week, since the weather is between -5C and -10C.  But the forecast is for much colder weather later on in December.  And of course January and February will bring -20C to -40C weather.  If the wind is not crazy, I walk outside regardless.  But I anticipate going to the Y on really cold/stormy days.

Not a Christmas Pic. But where I walk they have a lot of goats to eat the grass. But they like it better outside the pasture the food seems to be much better. They herd them back in and they come right back out

Still no success on the ‘no seconds’ challenge.  Every night we have a multi-course meal and that tanks it. I do better on breakfast and lunch, and have elimated my normal afternoon meal/snack, so that helps keep things under control. But the food really is great, and it is vacation, so I won’t beat myself up for it too much.  

 

Been doing my morning pushups and jumping jacks in the room, and have gotten the steps most days, though it has been close with the long bus rides to various places.  Did get get to the gym this morning for body weight exercises.  About 20 minutes.  (I’m on a planned rest for the weights).  Realized I’ve missed the gym and will be there again tomorrow morning.

@LisefromCanada - I think I need to go shopping. I can do walking in the 40sF but into the 30s, I’m too cold!  Way back, I did a winter camping weekend with my son when he was in Cub Scouts. I’m sure I had an extra thermal layer for the entire 3 days.  What about your face? Thanks for the inspiration!  I prefer walking outside. I just need to stop finding excuses.

10,000 steps today after shopping at the mall (and making an extra lap) and having an afternoon walk!  Missed the water intake though. On the weekend I find myself sleeping late and sipping coffee far longer than during the week.
