I sit all day at a desk, if I leave for lunch someone is always looking for me. What can I do inside an office for exercise. Sometimes literally hours pass before I get up.

Man, I have seen those treadmill desks and sure would love one....We can't have them here due to all of the wiring and computer setups at our desks. Very cool that you have one! That would be ideal!

I didn't read all previous posts (there were so many), but wanted to add my 2 cents. I'm a newbie, but I figured out that by trying to keep up with drinking 80-100 oz of water per day, I found myself having to use the restroom more often than in the past. So ... I choose the restroom that requires the most steps, including those on different floors.
That has helped keep up on steps and floors, especially on days when I do not plan to do any cardio.

Great idea asking someone to walk and talk. Thanks!

just started using a sit/stand desk and so hopefully can avoid the amount of sitting this way. Taking some getting used to, but think this will be helpful. Found a very low cost version of one so not a big cost to try this. Varidesk.

The way I see it, if you are being active at a sedintary job you are actually being a great employee. By moving and increasing your health you cut down on sick time, improve mental clarity, and are more invested in your work. All employers should encourage their employees to move and take breaks from their desks. The ongoing joke where I work is that I am always moving but I get more done in one day than most people do in a week. I have desk activated ADHD.

I actually had a boss get on me for taking bathroom breaks because the phone would ring when I was in the bathroom. They didn't complain about my co-workers 20min smoke breaks every other hour. My 2-3min bathroom breaks every hour were pushing it. I started tracking how often and how long I was on bathroom breaks. I literally was gone 20min out of 12hrs. Too really piss me off....during this time I was miscarrying and the knew that.
They ended up laying me off. Good things tend to come to those who wait...I ended up landing a considerably better job with a great work environment.

I have a desk job and here are some things I do to get up: Use the bathroom on a different floor of the building, ALWAYS take the stairs, park far away, eat at my desk throughout the day and walk outside during the 30 minute lunch time.

I'm in the same boat. Thank goodness we have a warehouse I can wander out to. And instead of looking up my parts on the digital manuals if I have it in stock, I'll go out there and put my hands on it.

I keep meaning to take my fitness ball to use in place of my desk chair. I think I'll give it a try this summer when students and most of the faculty aren't around to see if it will work for me. Fortunately my office is on the second floor so I do a lot of running up and down the stairs during the day.
