Your hands will swell if you walk for a long period with them swinging at your sides like a pendulum; it's to do with increased heart rate, increased blood flow, and the pooling effect from gravity of lymph in the extremities.
The solution to this is to keep your elbows bent and your hands about waist to chest height rather than allowing them to hang and swing. This reduces the accumulation of lymphatic fluid and helps to improve lymphatic return.
Hope this helps

My hand always swell when I walk!! It is so frustrating and looks horrible. They do go back to normal shortly after I stop. I don't like to carry anything when I walk, but I have found that holding my keys or a water bottle seems to help. This may be because I am making a fist, using the muscles in my hand and increasing blood flow.
