If you are holding onto the rails of a treadmill, does the Charge 3 record steps accurately or do your arms need to be at your side and swinging?

Generally your arms need to be swinging to get steps, for all models.
3 options:
1) Holding onto rails with Fitbit on wrist, you will still get heart rate data, which is used for calories burned and active minutes.
2) If you put tracker in a pocket or pinned to clothing, you will probably get better step count, but lose out on heart rate data.
3) If you can hold rail on just one side, you get everything.
