Add indoor walking and pickle ball to the exercise shortcuts. Apple watches have both of these.

In my vocabulary, walking is walking, whether you are indoors or out.

I understand that walking is walking, however, indoor walking is a little different. indoor walking is used due to inclement weather, unsafe neighborhoods, unsafe surfaces and safety. Indoor walking has different moves, not just forward walking. It has side moves, knee lifts, kicking, low impact jumping jacks, walking up and back. Also it is low impact for beginners and seniors. If walking was just walking, then why does the Apple Watch have this as an option? The Fitbit walking option is geared more for outside walking. Please don’t think less of people that enjoy walking indoors.
thank you!

For requests such as yours, you might want to post on Feature Suggestions board .
Apologies for not being familiar with that meaning of "indoor walking".
I certainly don't think less of anyone for walking indoors. That is where I do the great majority of my walking. But I personally don't do knee lifts, kicking, jumping jacks as part of it. Apparently you just have a different definition of "indoor walking" than I do, which is okay.
As for Apple Watch and "indoor walking", I cannot speak to that at all. But I did just find this on Google search of "Apple watch indoor walking":
I guess that quote from Apple support just left out the jumping jacks, kicks, and knee lifts.

I too had no idea there was a difference in walking. I walk indoors all the time- on a treadmill, which is walking. My fitbit captures steps and calories and miles just as it does when I walk outside. I honestly thought that when you add in side steps, jumping jacks, knee lifts, etc, it changes to a cardio workout instead of a walk. The only thing I can think of that would be different is a trail walk or a hike outside- not sidewalk or paved trail walking. I did look up the difference between the two according to apple and this is what I found: "For indoor workouts, Apple Watch relies mainly on your heart rate readings for calorie estimates, but for outdoor workouts, Apple Watch works in conjunction with iPhone (which has GPS) to calculate speed and distance".
Fitbit does it regardless of indoor or outdoor so perhaps that is the difference...

I would choose "treadmill" then for indoor walking as the the regular "walk" exercise will record GPS and use more battery on your device. But the treadmill setting would work for any type of indoor walking. Or just let the Fitbit auto-detect the activity.
For pickleball, I would use the "workout" option or maybe "tennis".

This is about the only mention I've seen of pickleball without stressing that it's the fastest growing sport in America. I was thinking maybe that was a requirement.
