Exercise after heart surgery

I had heart surgery for an electricl problem back in 2010, and I've been put off of exercise since. I used to run 204 miles a day, but now even climbing stairs makes my chest hurt. I really want to lose some weight and get back into shape, but I don't want to overload my heart. Besides walking, can anyone recommend some good exercises?

I know everyone say this, but if you're really that serious about exercising, talk to your doctor and see what he can recommend.

Aside from that, there's plenty that you can do that's low-intensity. Yoga and tai chi are very easy on the heart, especially if your breathing is focused. Muscular endurance exercises are usually fine as long as you're not lifting a lot of weight, and you're making sure you're breathing properly. You could try an easy bike ride or swim if walking's not your thing. Of course, listen to your body. You can push yourself but if you feel sick or lightheaded stop immediately.

I would agree with @too_spicy - see a doctor, if only for your own peace of mind. Your doctor can tell you exactly what you should do to get back into shape without hurting your heart.

Hi
I can relate because I had a heart attack at 52. It was tough in the beginning but with time it got better. You need to talk to your Dr and listen to your own body. There are so many ways to exercise but first mention any new endeavors to you doctor
