Exercise mode or active minutes?

so I just started using a fitbit alta.    due to my work schedule using  a treadmill is the best form of exercise.

The exercise tracker wants to show a GPS of my path.  but I'm in a single location. ?

I've read the posts about just using activity tracker,  but would also like to track my exercise (treadmill, bike, etc)  Separably for motivational use.     I'm not even actually concerned with recording the activity as much as I am with recording the goal ( ie  5 days of exercise).   I use the android app. but don't see a manual method of updating this  metric.   any thoughts or idea's

I am not familiar with the android app myself, but if it is similar to the iOS app there should be a plus sign at the center bottom of the screen. If you click that you can track exercises from there. If you want to log afterwards you can also click track exercise and then at the top of the screen change to log.

@DJI961 If you are truly just interested in tracking activity, I'd suggest you set a goal of X number of active days a week. That way you can let your Fitbit track it on auto recognize. Meaning, if you are walk outside, on a treadmill, doing the stairs in a building for 30 minutes it will record you as being active for that day. On the app, you should see an icon of a person (see pic) click the plus (+) sign to set goals. Once you have goals set, you will see X of X Days weekly exercise below the icon and a bar around the icon indicating the number of day completed toward the goal.
