Did you mean:

FNG looking for help.

So, I am 52, fat, and have a job (OTR truck driver) that needs to lose a ton of weight and get in shape.
My wife gave me her old fit bit and told me to get it done.
I am starting out walking but have only managed to lose about 5lbs in a month.
I am looking for tips, inspiration, and just a way to get down to a size that I can advance beyond walking without being in pain.
I am 5’9” and 252 lbs. Anyone from a similar background that has tips, please let me know.

Welcome @SuperDave68

The biggest thing to be aware of is calories in (calories you consume) versus calories out (calories you burn). Ideally, you would want to be in a calorie deficit each day. To lose one pound, you need to create a calorie deficit of 3,500. For example, if you want to lose 2 pounds a week divide 7,000 (3,500 x 2) by 7 to get 1,000, that means a negative 1,000 calories per day overall.. There are three ways to create a calorie deficit:

1) Eat fewer calories than burned each day

2) Increase physical activity so more calories are burned than consumed

3) A combination of eating fewer calories and increasing physical activity

Continue walking until you get to the point that you can incorporate other activities.  Walking is good exercise and a lot of progress can be made by just walking. You've got this! 🙂

@SuperDave68 hey there and welcome to the community. As Cathy mentioned losing weight is more about what you eat than how many steps you take. Not to say you shouldn't be taking steps- you should be. There are two things you want to make sure to do, get your nutrition under control and improve your overall health. I am sure your job isn't conducive to the most healthy lifestyle, but I think you can get it done. Eat grilled options and fresh options as much as you can. Drink lots of water and when you stop, do a mile at least around the rest stop. It will get your blood flowing and help with aches and pains. Your body is used to sitting, so it is protesting now. But, the protests will stop and it will get so much easier if you keep on doing the right things for your body. Don't focus on the weight loss as much as improving your health. The weight loss will come as a byproduct of doing good things for yourself.

So. I have figured out that 4 laps around my truck. (Peterbilt 579 with a 43ft tanker trailer) is .1 mile.

I have stopped eating popcorn and chips for snacks and gone to veggies like celery and carrot sticks. I try to get i. A couple miles every other day. Since I have posted this I have lost 10 lbs. (wow). I tweaked my ankle last week working, but I am going to muscle through. One thing I have hours helpful is the two minute relaxation technique. I am also working on getting my resting heart rate down. I really appreciate the help. I wish there were other truck drivers on here, though.
