FYI July — Step Challenge and Photo Scavenger Hunt
Just a little For Your Information that we are halfway through 2019, and it is time to sign up for another monthly challenge. And a reminder that if you happen to see this for the first time mid-month, jump on in; there is no need to wait for another challenge to start next month.
How It Works
The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to encourage you to set and hit your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.
Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”
Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.
Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total
Picture Scavenger Hunt — 3 pictures
The theme this month is a parade or other outside event or a famous landmark. In the US there should be plenty of material on or around July 4. Elsewhere it might be a market or someplace near you that regular shows up in the paper or on television.

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week
Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

@Baltoscott I wonder if your love to ride bikes plays into your bad posture? You like to lean over and hold the handlebars or your 50 mile rides...so that leads to leaning over in your chair? Subconsciously you are probably thinking, "I'd rather be riding my bike then sitting here!"
@Jotex Gluten-the root of evil in the gut! LOL My husband can not eat gluten either, not celiacs for him either but wheat causes migraines and frequent bathroom trips. It's worse for our (adult) kids with 4 out of 5 kids who can't eat gluten or dairy. The hard thing here in the U.S. is gluten is found in everything, processed foods, spices, sauces...it's everywhere. Be careful in Texas! Even chili that is easy to make gluten free often has gluten buried in the spices.

Thanks for the tip @BMANintheUP. I, too, am trying to cut way back on wheat and gluten, and lactose. I once asked a specialist about getting tested for celiac and lactose intolerance. He said to stop having any for 4 days, then have some and I would know. Yup, not an out-and-out allergy, but it affects me in different ways.
I also enjoy our camaraderie in this group.

Where I walk they do a lot of weddings. They set this up Sunday. Looked like a big wedding. I think they do a good job.

July Goals - Day 2
Thanks for the Birthday wishes everyone. The place setting was by far smaller then Wendy's picture! LOL My husband and son did take me out to lunch at a Swedish Restaurant that we had never been to before, so that was fun. And I had a yummy cheesecake, but it was not as pretty looking as that wonderful looking cake.
Daily Steps Goal: 6000 Steps - 2/31
Extra Step Goals: 10,000 Steps - 1/31 It's amazing what doing a little yard work does to the step count! Add in some dog training and it's an easy 10,000...I hope for more days like this throughout the month!
Extra Step Goals: 15,000 Steps - 0/31
Peak Heart Rate Goal: 20 minutes - 2/31
Cardio Goal: 125 minutes - 2/31
Yoga Goal - 1/31
Jumping 5+ Minutes - 1/31
Water Fun Goal - 0/31
Dog Walking Goal: Walk each dog in my presence for at least half a mile every day - 3/6
Dog Training Goal: Active training with each dog in presence for at least 5 minutes every day - 6/6

Goals: 20k+ steps per day, 25 floors or more. No point in logging miles since steps are up. I am still doing the free weights and yoga about 3x a week. Still hiking with Jake about an hour per day.
July 1 steps 26,200, 35 floors
7/2 steps 32,718, floors 37. Ugg, lots of mowing with push mower and weed eating
Biggest news this week is that my wife got 3 heirloom ripe tomatoes BEFORE July 4th. The only tomatoes I eat are what she grows.
