FYI July — Step Challenge and Photo Scavenger Hunt

 

Just a little For Your Information that we are halfway through 2019, and it is time to sign up for another monthly challenge. And a reminder that if you happen to see this for the first time mid-month, jump on in; there is no need to wait for another challenge to start next month.

                                     

How It Works

The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to encourage you to set and hit your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.

 

Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”

 

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

 

Suggested Posting Format    
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

 

Picture Scavenger Hunt — 3 pictures

 

The theme this month is a parade or other outside event or a famous landmark.  In the US there should be plenty of material on or around July 4.  Elsewhere it might be a market or someplace near you that regular shows up in the paper or on television.

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week

 

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

So the 3 Physical Therapy exercises that I started with this month are up to 9 now.  It seems to be working.  The sharp pain and limited mobility in my left shoulder was diagnosed as ‘shoulder impingement.’  I’ve got a ways to go, but it is much improved as is the chronic pain I’ve had in my neck for years.  I’m really amazed, both with what I’ve been willing to put up with for years, and with how much improvement is possible without resorting to surgery.

I have had a cold for the last 10 days or so and will not meet my bike goal for this month so I am taking sick leave for the bike goal and will change it to 4 rides this month!

Earlier this month my wife's corn corp was crushed in downpore.  She thought it was loss, but she rigged up some supports and put all the stalks back up and, surprise, surprise, most of them kept on growing.  Today she pulled over the first three ears we will have for dinner.  By the looks of things, will be eating a lot of corn over the next few weeks.  🙂

Day 30

Daily Steps Goal: 6000 Steps - 22/31 

Extra Step Goals: 10,000 Steps - 10/4 AMAZING for ME!

Extra Step Goals: 15,000 Steps - 1/2  I usually hit one a month, but I'm going to keep trying to hit 2 in the same month!  I just hit my first and only one for July today and with 1 more day to go, I don't think it's happening tomorrow!

Peak Heart Rate Goal: 20 minutes - 22/20

Cardio Goal: 125 minutes - 25/20

Yoga Goal - 6/20  Since this goal is tied to migraines, I guess it's good that I haven't had alot of migraines this month to cause me to need to stretch my back and neck out!  But the last week, I've been doing more even though I don't have a headache.  🙂

Jumping 5+ Minutes - 4/20    Deleted because my step counts are up, haven't needed to jump to make other goals and get cardio up like I did last month.

Water Fun Goal - 15/20 I'm counting this as win since I really didn't have a base line from last month!  I haven't had my kayak out as much as I'd like, but I'm finding other things to do with water that I enjoy almost as much!

Dog Walking Goal - 64/87  I haven't gotten all 3 dogs out every day like I hoped, but I have increased working with the older dogs more.  So this is a win/win too!

Dog Training Goal  - 78/87  Same here...it's easy to train the 1 yr pup every day, but I'm doing more with the older dogs and a few friends dogs, so all is good!

 

I might have irregular internet for August, so I probably won't be on much next month.  But I'm going to join the group and watch all the fun you guys have!  I'll check in when I can.  🙂One of the many friends we saw this month on hikes.One of the many friends we saw this month on hikes.

@Baltoscott Corn is surprisingly resilient.  I'm hoping my tomato plants survive the squash plant's vines wrapping onto it.  Smiley Mad  The squash went crazy with it's growing.  The leaves are bigger than my head at this point.
