FYI July -- Step Challenge and Photo Scavenger Hunt

FYI July — Step Challenge and Photo Scavenger Hunt

Just a little For Your Information that we are halfway through 2019, and it is time to sign up for another monthly challenge. And a reminder that if you happen to see this for the first time mid-month, jump on in; there is no need to wait for another challenge to start next month.

How It Works

The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to encourage you to set and hit your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.

Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

Picture Scavenger Hunt — 3 pictures

The theme this month is a parade or other outside event or a famous landmark.  In the US there should be plenty of material on or around July 4.  Elsewhere it might be a market or someplace near you that regular shows up in the paper or on television.

Posting

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

Sorry I haven’t been posting. I left Switzerland early last Wednesday and am now at my Mom’s in Texas. Between lots of meet-ups with family and high school friends, and helping my Mom since her day carer (since her fall in Feb) is on vacation, I haven’t met my daily step goal. Maybe today.

Just wanted to check in. Happy stepping peeps!

@WendyB LOL, not sure what that horse was thinking. Usually if one goes in the rest follow easily, that's why Char & I went in ahead of the black horse. Our girls have been doing this for 20 years and a bit of water is no problem.  After about 15 minutes of the horse balking a young gal horse trainer went over and switched horses and rode the black horse across (after much effort)  This river only came up to the saddle edge on my horse, we've gone across rivers with the water over our saddles.

Before fitbit I was generally very active. We retired 9 years ago set goals. We wanted to walk 60 miles a month. Our first year we walked 1500 miles. After our first four years everyone questioned how we knew how many miles we walked.  Our son bought us a Garmon  gps. I have used a fitbit for 2 1/2 years , recorded 20,000,000 steps. Over the past 9 years probably 70,000,000   million steps. We live near Montreal we walk no matter what the weather conditions. We have walked through multiple physical ailments. I am lucky to have a wife who enjoys walking each and every day with me. I also cycle. We are 66 and will never stop walking as  long as we are  able to walk. Fitbit has helped us to measure our achievements.

Still haven’t gotten above 8,000 steps a day. I sure miss my treadmill! Here are a few local ‘famous’ places. The monument honoring the battle to defeat Mexican General Santa Anna and win Texas’ independence. The second is a beach (our favorite) on Galveston Island.
